One of the other clips in the account is a montage of her learning the song from infancy!

It made me happy that she visibly feels it while she's playing.

This is so sweet that my own dog stopped to listen to it. When I looked at another video with Emilie singing, my dog focused hard and tilted her head, which I've never seen her do for a song.

Generally I don't hold anymore with kid content on YT, but this seems like a happy, genuine child in a genuine family. I can't know that, of course, but it just really seems special.

That was lovely. Also the montage posted by xigxag, just beautiful.

I spotted this one that shows the father, Paul Barton, playing The Moonlight Sonata to a very old elephant at night

One of the really beautiful things about that montage, to me, is that Emilie's dad is clearly an older dad. My wife and I have been trying to have a baby for a while, now in fertility treatment, and if we're successful I'll be an older dad, too. These videos will be extremely precious to her later in life, and her dad spending a lot of time to share and teach her something special to him will be a treasure she carries for her whole life (him, too, of course)--especially because she is simply statistically likely to get fewer years with him than other kids maybe get with their parent(s).

And this one, all about the dogs they have rescued, adopted and cared for at their home in Bangkok, narrated by Emilie. Both parents feature in this one, including beautiful artwork by Emilie and her mom.

The only reason I have heard of, know, and adore this song from 1960 is Kid Koala screwed around with it on some turntables.

Ok, and this video of Emilie painting a freaking amazing 4m x 4m acrylic painting of dragons, the enormous canvas built by her dad. They rented scaffolding so she could reach the top. Her painting vocabulary is terrific. In various videos, both her parents do visual art, but especially her mom, who is a painter and sculptor. What a life! There is also a longer version.

So cute and love the montage too!

I love it when something is able to cut through my cynicism.

I used to have a sweet cat, RIP Fergus, who would lie in front of my amp but only when modulation pedals were in use.

I always wondered what the line “my huckleberry friend” meant in that song but now I’m pretty sure it means that specific dog.

My dog loves to listen to me play. She jumps on the back of the sofa right next to the keyboard and just soaks it in.

Have you never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's? You should get on that, pronto!

As a child, [Mancini, the songwriter] had picked huckleberries in summer, and he connected them with a carefree childhood and Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. (wikipedia)

Ah, my expectation of what a young kid can do on the piano is completed warped by my daughter who's taking piano for the third semester and attempting some baby sonata, so my jaw dropped.

Pretty arrangement. I wasn't playing on that level at her age.

This is probably my favorite arrangement of the song, which dials up the complexity substantially.

My dog used to love to listen to me play too. She would run into the room whenever she heard me start playing. It's doubtful that dogs have the cognitive sophistication to appreciate music on a human level, but it's so sweet how they love to be involved even if they don't totally understand what their humans are doing.

I've been practising piano for many years and I couldn't play it at that level (which is unsurprising, since I'm really not very good, but still).

From a purely mechanical standpoint, I guess I could handle that particular arrangement in terms of complexity, but what's really nice here, and what I probably couldn't pull off, is her grasp of the dynamics - when to be gentle, when to be more forceful, etc. You can see it already in the montage of her learning the song since she was a baby - even as a baby, not hitting any keys yet, she already captures that dynamic with her hand movements.

It made me happy that she visibly feels it while she's playing.

This ability to convey the emotion - I envy it more than purely technical skills. My lack of technical skills is something I'm very much at peace with. Piano is just a fun thing I do purely for myself when I can spare half an hour, I will never put in the time to pull off certain pieces, and that's fine, there's a lot of other stuff I can manage, and have fun with. But that gift for emotion! That makes me really wistful. My critics (*cough* mom *cough*) say I make everything sound like a military march.
