One of the pioneers of indie feminist cartooning, Aline Kominsky-Crumb, has died at 74 after a long illness. Kominsky-Crumb, whose alter ego was (and was not) "Honeybunch Kominsky," drew rough, hilarious, vital cartoons about her experience as a young Jewish woman in a raunchy world. (2018 interview, cw: sexual violence.) Her obituary at Comicsbeat shows some of her characteristic strips. She is survived by a daughter, a grandson, and her husband.

Indie comics of the '60s etc. previously, most recently.

For a little while, she made Weirdo her own, and it was glorious.

Her art is a major part of the movie Diary of a Teenage Girl. As Aline says in the film, "Check it out, Girl Scout."

R. Crumb was my comix idol until I got older and found some of his work troubling. After reading Aline's work… I figured if she could tolerate the bum, I'd keep reading about their Dirty Laundry and the Covid Exposé.

I'm stunned. She was such a great, swirling storm of a person, she was so very alive, and the idea of her suddenly not being alive anymore just does not compute. I almost expect her to publish one more confessional comic from beyond the grave, where she goofs on everybody at her funeral. If anybody could somehow manage it, it would be Aline.

Aw, a shame. I thought R.Crumb was much older than he is, and Aline was great in her own right, perhaps despite her pervy paramour. I'll admit I misremember her style with Linda Barry, sometimes, but she was a strong, great voice in cartoons, underground or otherwise and will be missed.
