Flash Forward with Rose Eveleth is a podcast that explores possible or not-so-possible futures, taking great care to examine how technology, opportunity, and adversity will be experienced differently by people of different identities. Typically, each episode begins with a short piece of audio fiction, followed by inteviews with experts. The current ongoing special series, Welcome to Vanguard Estates, kicks off a with a choose-your-own-adventure style nonlinear narrative, which you can experience in audio form or read as text.

Dementia is a complicated topic, and this series investigates it from every angle: body, brain, and whole person experiencing dementia, the family, money, labor, technology, and healthcare. The nonfiction portion begins with in an atypical place for most dementia coverage, but in a typical place for Flash Forward: with Kate Swaffer, an Australian activist who lives with dementia.

Despite the fact that Flash Forward seems to be exquisite MeFite bait, there are no previouslies, though Flash Forward is sometimes recommended in podcast request threads, as it should be! Check out the deep back catalogue on the Flash Forward Website or in your podcatcher of choice.

I love this podcast so much. I taught a psych of the future class a few years back, and we drew on a few episodes. I've also used the crime-related series to add to a forensic psych class. Eveleth does a great job of balancing research findings with wonder, and the fictional opening scenarios are a bonus!

Sadly, this miniseries is the finale of Flash Forward! But there’s quite an extensive archive.
