Gymkhana 2022 (previously) features a crazy guy doing crazy things in a crazy car.

(One of the sponsors is Black Rifle Coffee (previously), which isn't great.)

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I clicked on that, but dang. That is pretty crazy driving.

The "active aero" flaps are cool as hell.

I mis-remembered the title and, for a moment, thought this was a remake of Gymkata, and was very confused.

I'm really in awe of the engineering in these cars, more so than the driving. I mean the driving is impressive (although the video 'enhances' it), but the ability to design and build a car that has so much capability is really something else.

I’m assuming that the car was basically taken apart and put back together after each jump, right?

Also, how many sets of tires would they have gone through in such a production?

Yeah, the video is edited to suggest one continuous run, but it can't possibly be. If nothing else there are places where the road shows clear signs of previous runs.

Dirt 3, an old-ish racing game, has a load of gymkhana-mode games. I remember it being a lot of fun - the controls are pretty nice.

This was immensely entertaining to watch.

Using a car to pull a skateboard trick (at 1:10) is a helluva thing.

I'm actually finding the video about the car more interesting than the video of the driving (which like always is somewhere between ridiculous and nuts). I like that they took their aesthetic starting point the early 1980s Subaru wagons, since that was what I learned to drive in (many years before I was legal to learn how to drive).

The car is purpose-built for this so, as long as nothing went wrong (eg hitting something hard), it would be perfectly capable of doing the whole run without repair. If they had done the whole run in one go (which they clearly didn't), a set of tyres would probably make it through. No doubt they replaced tyres somewhere during filming, if only to maintain the predictability of the car and minimise the changes in behaviour as the tyres wore.

I'm guessing they would have filmed all the lower-risk segments first and the highest-risk ones last to give themselves the best chance of finishing without having to close all the streets etc a second or third time.

One of the sponsors is Black Rifle Coffee Company. It took me a moment to recognize the logo on the black helicopter as the same one worn by Kyle Rittenhouse or the zip tie guy at the capital insurrection
