Tonight seven countries (Estonia, Romania, Denmark, Croatia, Latvia, Italy and Malta) hold finals to select their entries for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. With 87 days to go, ten songs have already been chosen. In other Eurovision news, John Lydon will not represent Ireland with his song, Hawaii, a moving tribute to his wife Nora. And the Worst Kept Secret in Norway has been revealed: the identities of 2022's entry Subwoolfer, of Give That Wolf a Banana fame.

Letting viewers vote is always a bad idea. The winning song was the worst. It will probably win.

uh those two guys are clearly humans and not space wolves, so we still don’t know the true identities of Subwoolfer

So wait, Lydon, a pro brexit ass, has an IRISH passport? And someone has been willingly married to him for 48 years?! Knock me down with a feather. Next you'll be telling me that Morrissey is nice to orphans.

Watching Estonia right now. Songs were okay but nothing blew me away so I am rooting for Sissi just because she's Dave Benton's daughter and he's one of my favorite Eurovision winners.

They do have a band called Bedwetters, which is a pretty good band name I gotta say.

Fuck that obnoxious wanker but wow that's a lovely song and I choked up listening to it.

One day America will join Eurovision and then the EU.

Interestingly, Australia isn't holding a national contest for Eurovision this year, I'd imagine because the most interesting and worthy songs kept coming second to ballads

(and maybe because SBS are going to bow to public demand, and unleash TISM on Eurovision)

I'm glad that the Irish people who were invested enough in this pageantry, voted against Lydon and rejected the homophobic, trans phobic, Brexit loving, Trump supporting, attention seeking shithead. But hey, that's just my opinion. I didn't listen to his song, and I am not going to.

Because there is such a large quantity of assholes in the world, and only so many hours in the day in which one can learn of their asshole deeds, I did not know the vile extent of Lyndon’s assholery when I posted. Please pardon this stereotypically ignorant American. Perhaps if we all join hands and post the songs we do like, we can pull focus from the Lydon asshole and take this thread in a happier direction. There’s enough Eurovision sparkly warm fuzzies for everyone. For example, I enjoyed Blanca Paloma’s song.

I love Eurovision will all my heart, but I don't really follow along with the National Finals very much. For one, there's just so many of them. Then there's the fact that some songs I like will inevitably fail to be chosen. I already lament the songs I like that don't make it out of the semi-finals -- that's enough heartbreak for me each season, thank you very much.

That said, I have been listening to songs as they are chosen and do make it to the Eurovision YouTube page. There aren't many posted yet, and none of them really grab me so far. It's early in the process, though, and some songs I won't really like until I see them on stage with all the pizazz (and pyrotechnics) that accompany that.

With the end of winter comes Eurovision, and soon, it be the most magical time of the year. This comforts me.
