Neon - A Short Skate Film

Neon is five minutes of mindblowing freestyle skateboarding from Andy Anderson, Isamu Yamamoto, and Kilian Martin.

Filmed by Brett Novak, whose YouTube channel is well worth checking out for more awesome "short skate films" as well as the giant Short-Sided playlist of one-to-two-minute videos of people doing one trick really well, filmed really well (Garrett Hill's gorgeous front foot impossible is a personal favourite).

Well I can see why it's called the 'impossible'.

Yeah. This is beautiful. That's me on a skating video wormhole all day - which is to say you made Thursday much better

Man, I don't think I've shouted "no fuckin' way!" so many times in 5 minutes. That is some very cool skating. Thanks, Dysk!

It's really cool to see an edited film that looks this good of people successfully doing skate tricks. I've never been into skating myself, but I used to watch kids try stuff like this when I lived near a skate park. I mostly found it exasperating and frustrating to watch kids perform in real life, since 95% of it seemed to be falling on asses and boards rolling away, accompanied by loud scraping and clattering sounds.

I’m pretty sure I could do this if I had a floor waxed that shiny. And a skateboard. And a 20 year old body. And more grace and athleticism than I have ever possessed in my entire life.

"Fuck it, let's try it with four boards"

This was a great short film, and the others in his YouTube account are also worth checking out. Really cool and interesting. Great share. :)

This post got me to rewatch this slow motion 1000 frames per second skateboard video. Beautiful balletic physics.

With the same moves at full speed at the end of the video. Too fast to see.
Details in the youtube "Show more..." description.

(I thought, "this must have been on MF before"... In 2012! Backside 180 casper flip? )

Not to take anything away from what they are doing, which is amazing, you do have to remind yourself while watching that this is an edited film; just like the kids at the skatepark, they are falling on their asses, too.

They are, but possibly less than you'd think.

Haven't you heard the story of the Navy pilot that almost crash landed on an aircraft carrier because his plane's stabilization system was on the fritz? They ran diagnostics and a printout confirmed what the pilot had suspected: the gyroscope didn't have the accuracy needed for a perfect landing. The error message read "Who do you think I am, Andy Anderson?"

That transition/flip from the handstand at 2:03.... :-O

Yeah I fully believe these guys are falling less than you’d think. I refuse to believe anybody learned that handstand trick without grievous bodily harm at one and probably multiple points. Keeerist.

I've been watching a ton of Ellis Frost, he does some tricks that blow my mind and I've been watching skate videos since the 90s...

Frost is definitely one of my favourite street skaters right now. A wide selection of creative tricks as well as some super tech stuff, all executed with amazing style.
