Silly Putty

Silly Putty supersized. Indulge in tactile manipulation on the kind of scale that would make jealous schoolchildren weep. Do they come in giant plastic shells?

That's awesome.

Best. Putty. Ever.

I think I'd rather have fifty pounds of this stuff, myself.

50 pounds of Silly Putty isn't as cool as you might think. It's awfully heavy. And the stuff is hard - when you have a thick chunk it is very difficult to work with.

Oh, we get to choose?

I'll take fifty pounds of these, please.

I don't get it. Buying 10 pounds of silly putty might be the only way to find out. Anyone want to pitch in?

Hey Crash - that link you point to at ThinkGeek is just a reseller of the product listed in the article, the "Thinking Putty" from Crazy Aaron's Putty World (www.puttyworld.com). I bought stuff from them off of a link from BoingBoing a few months back, and it's the best putty I've ever, ever had, while simultaneously being the second worst putty I ever had, as really, silly putty is the only other kind I know of.

My coworkers & I also bought several varieties of Aaron's putty -- the putties were beautiful colors and wonderful to play with. They were very large chunks and we would often sit with several coworkers in an office, all of us sculpting different things or taking out our aggressions... funny, that company is out of business now :)
I definitely recommend it. Aaron even writes a funny little thank you note on the invoice ..

For more cool geeky things, try one of these ... I got my dad one last year for Christmas -- he loved it.

Thinking Putty is (relatively) expensive - ounce for ounce, it's about 4 times as much as Silly Putty. The Crayola Store sells 5 pound blobs of silly for $59, versus Aaron's 1lb bags for $20. Although Aaron's has some really beautiful colors.

I buy all kinds of Silly Putty. It's like crack. I would so take a hit if someone was selling off parts of a 10 pound blob.

A bit of advice - don't buy red silly putty. It stains your fingers (but washes right off).

I was mildly amused until I read about blue glow-in-the-dark putty. Oh, oh, dear.
