"Spear chucker" game?

That aside, this isn't nearly as much fun as, say, pushing someone down the stairs.

Yeah golly that was unfortunate phrasing. Assume unintentional.

I can't get more than 330 feet. How in hell are these people getting over 500?

This entertained me for 15 mins or so..

Starving: your second click, the one that cocks the spear, can't be too soon... and you want to release it as close to between the two stones as you can... try holding down the button when the tip of his spear is even with the small palm in the background, then releasing at the stones.

What are you people looking at... it's a SPORT! :)

yeah. 532, and then i realized that i could do this all day and *STILL* not get into the high scores, as they're all like .25 within each other. i guess that's the only reason to play these sorts of games anyways -- I WILL BE THE BEST EVER AND EVERYONE WILL KNOW!

(also probably what drives people to write little programs to cheat, etc, which is probably a more interesting phenomenon than the proliferation of these little games themselves.)

Boy, is my face red. I never even thought about holding the mouse button down. Thanks, gnoll.

Hold the mouse button down. The spear cocks back. Then release the mouse to release the spear.

537.

Foul. :(

Best advice I can give is cock the spear at his sixth step and then throw 2 steps after. Don't time the second 2 steps to the first 6, he speeds up a bit when you cock the spear. I've gotted 533+ a few times with this method.

And much apologies about the phrasing, it's just the term we've been using here at work I didn't even think about it.

530 is my best fair score, 540 foul. Thanks for the link, but I know my day can be written off now.
posted by adnanbwp at 9:51 AM on September 20, 2002

533.751, and i can consistantly get 530+. but it's a matter of pixels between my scores and the ones on the high score list so i'm not going to spend the hours trying to find the one magical super score. thanks for the link =)

File under "F" for FUCK!!!!! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!!!!

I shall cease playing now and get back to work

Not to be too picky, but why does it go farther for a right-handed thrower throwing with the right foot in front instead of the left foot?
posted by stevefromsparks at 11:21 AM on September 20, 2002

Curse this game. I'm pretty consistently getting 520, and once got up to 533, but I don't see how anyone can get any more than that....

628.068!!

Sure, it was foul, but...it counts for something, right?

Right?

Intentional foul.
The hell is that peach/cyan wall doing there?

Seems like a modern day web version of one of the events from Microsoft's Olympic Decathlon. (Anyone remember that one?)

For a twist, see how short a throw you can make. There's a lower end limit of 0.02, so legitimate short throws will have to be greater than that. My best (worst?) is 3.92.

I thought that up as I was trying to make the guy run under his own spear. It's time to go lie down.

You know...I think I do remeber playing that on on Acorn computer in primary school...you had to quickly tap ',' and '.' to run...

This entertained me for 15 mins or so..

Thanks a lot Orange Goblin. I'm going mad. Can anyone get a satellite to orbit both the moon and the earth at the same time? If it isn't possible, someone better tell me now.
posted by footballrabi at 1:33 PM on September 20, 2002

I've got 5 round the Earth (woo me) but I'm yet to get anything round the moon...

what's wrong with "spear chucker"?
posted by Mars Saxman at 6:09 PM on September 20, 2002

That satellite one is way cool. I got two going at once in a (so far) stable orbit around the earth. One other that I thought was stable was going out and circling the moon twice every cycle, but it crashed and burned. Bummer.

Mars: You're unfamiliar with it as a slur?

*casts around fitfully in Google, comes up with The Scream Online's "Walls," Doing Freedom's "Yo Spearchucker!" and a soundbite on a page from the Netizen on Bob Dornan*

oops how they got
posted by worldinflux at 8:05 AM on September 21, 2002

allaboutgeorge: yes, I'd never even seen the phrase referenced before, much less heard it used as a slur. I still don't understand what it means, or why it is offensive, but at least now I know never to accidentally mix those two words... thanks for the links.
