The Plight of the Pregnant Prisoner. Every culture has to decide what to do with their pregnant prisoners. Here in the USA, are we doing the best we can? And then there is the whole abortion debate.

Here is an introduction to the full Amnesty International study. Also, an ABC news Nightline report.

Photographer Jane Evelyn Atwood has published a great book about women in prison, many of them pregnant

(for photography buffs, here she talks about her favorite camera -- .pdf file, go to page 9, corporate publicity source I am totally not affiliated with -- I wish)

For the unsuspecting, the abortion debate link plays a very loud, obnoxious embedded MIDI, the controls for which are at the dead bottom of the page. It left me with no desire to read the content.

Oops, sorry Dreama...I very rarely have the sound turned on, so I missed that. Too bad you didn't read the link(s) because both were interesting. The first was about a prisoner who was not allowed to get an abortion, even though she was willing to pay for it herself. The second link was about a judge who sentenced a woman to prison (for kiting checks) rather than suspending her sentence because he did not want her to be able to get an abortion.

Of possible interest is NFL Vikings Quarterback Daunte Culpepper. He was born in prison!
