Hold the button

Hold the button proves the best flash apps are the most simple (and pointlessly stupid). Try it once and you'll quickly understand how nuts the top scores are.

Surely there's a catch or a hack involved...that top time's naerly two weeks! Or maybe I just underestimate some people's capacity for obtaining pointless records. Good link.

I'm sure that's the old "tape down the turbo button on the Nintendo controller" trick. Pointlessly stupid, indeed.

Yeah, like anybody really held the button down for 13 days!

Now, if the button moved slowly...

38 seconds! (and already bored out of my mind.)

0.01..How's my score?

I wouldn't suggest putting your email (or your friends) in this spam email harvester though.

I made it about nine seconds. Then my finger cramped up and I had to take myself out of the game and head to the locker room to ice it. I don't want to miss the first game of the playoffs, y'know.

I think you're on to something salmacis... a much better idea.

Hold down left mouse button. Then right. release.
(brings up menu while keeping button on screen depressed)

Twelve minutes. But only because I propped down the mouse button with my Hotsync cradle while I did the laundry.

resizes browser window, causes several popups, one of which causes a download to begin. it's not worth it.

9 days, 6 hours, 38 minutes and 22 seconds. Beat that!

...and turns it into a game of 'how long can I leave my PC like this'.

Hmm, that's new, it was fairly non-toxic when it did the rounds a couple of weeks ago...

I think you mean a game of " how effin stupid am I to waste valuable moments of my existence doing this idiotic crap". But then I just wasted some of my own by typing all this.

I don't want to brag, but I'm the Michael Jordan of the HoldTheButton. It just comes natural to me. I'm not sure when I first discovered my talent, but when I hold the button down, it's like I've come home--but to a home I've never known.

Ahem...

(You can disable unrequested popups. Along with Javascript window moving and resizing. And the raising/lowering of windows.)

Amen to that, Danelope :) I have practically forgotten how annoying popups are after switching to Mozilla. Plus IE did its asinine trick of forcing certain pages to jump to the foreground when they finish loading. God that was annoying. *hugs Mozilla.org*

As for the site at hand...I spent 3 minutes! Waiting for it to load, anyway o_O Then I gave up.

you did laundry in 12 minutes?!?!?!
-amazed-
I htried to hold the button down with a book and eraser and gave up pretty quick.
* sigh*, i have no life

You're supposed to hold the button down? But it's on my screen!
posted by boardman at 4:04 PM on October 1, 2002

I tried to hold it down, but all I got was fingerprints on my monitor. No matter how hard I push, the button doesn't go down. Maybe someone else is using it and I need to wait my turn?

I tried to use The Power of My Mind to depress the button.

I failed, miserably.

They're very upfront about their email harvesting, have to give them that. Here's their "privacy" policy.

Meh. All that button holding takes too much effort. Looks like it's back to Progress Quest for me.
