Walking with Scout and Tim Walz

Matt from "weratedogs" ambles through an off-leash park in Minnesota with VP candidate TIm Walz and his rescue dog Scout in another celebrity dog-walking interview. Hard-hitting questions about some of Scout's past scandals are answered! (No politics as such, if you're wary.)

Not that anybody asked me (ha), but I don't think I could handle having a position where for the rest of my life I was surrounded by armed men for my own protection. Those Secret Service guys popping in and out of the woods - that doesn't seem relaxing to me!

That being said, this was lovely.

They're good dogs, Tom.

Walz doesn't quite have the right leash technique in this video, but since it's an off-leash area, it doesn't matter as much. I'll allow it.

Scout is precious and I love him. Walz also clearly loves dogs (and animals). It was also so sweet how he kept introducing Matt as "this is the We Rate Dogs guy!" like that was a way bigger deal than these people meeting the governor of their state.

Yeah, no politics but ... I'd rather see politicians be these sorts of people than the usual.

Walz is a good dog dad. This is good.

One thing that impressed me was the fact that Walz shut up after introducing Matt and let the other dog walkers talk to Matt.

Last one of these I watched was I think a nice walk with Noah Kahan right as he was blowing up, and it was a genuinely nice, normal conversation.

This one was also fun. In spite of the guards with assault rifles lurking conspicuously in the background, it was very normal and sweet. And Walz comes off as so normal, greeting random people, wearing the leash like a pro when the dog goes off somewhere. And it was really just a conversation about how great dogs are.

I can't see how you'd come away from that not liking Walz a bit (if you like dogs and aren't a complete zealot). Everything that I keep seeing from this guy makes me really like him.

And I've been very much on the record as giving people who don't like dogs or cats [short of trauma] a questioning side eye since I trust that pets are a much better indicator of humanity than what a person says.

I know that at some level all politicians are performing a role, but Tim Walz is really nailing it right now.

"Scout's also accused of eating your glasses, stealing the cat's food, being a Gemini" lol

sending this to all the dog lovers I know (already Walz fans)

Decriminalize Scout sleeping on the people bed.

This is good content. Thanks for sharing!

Heckin' good interview. 14/10, tell your dog I said hi!

(Would have been nice if they gave those Secret Service agents a buddy to walk as well)

I love how Walz is so good at making whoever is with him be the star of the show.

Well, with Scout and Walz getting the love, I have to plug one of my hometown's dog parks. Haven't been there in a few years though, because one of our rescues scaled a cliff chasing something the only time we took her there. It's not fenced all around because it's a big park, and I still don't 100% trust her recall.

Great video.

Queensissy, I live a few hundred yards from a prominent politician who, like us, has a golden Labrador. The two dogs are always excited to see each other and more than once I have been dragged down the street, barging between the two burly gentlemen walking ten metres behind the politician, because Hector wants to say hello to Luna. (Luna's owner always carries treats, so that may be part of the incentive.) They've always been very understanding about it.

My impression is that you never get used to their presence. My sister's father-in-law was secretary of state for Northern Ireland in the John Major cabinet in the 1990s, back when Northern Ireland was hot, and he had four close-protection officers for much of the rest of his life. They're there for a reason, and if you accept the reason then you have to accept them, but it doesn't make it any easier. My sister's wedding was in a sleepy Suffolk village and there were almost more security people than guests, including a bomb-sniffer dog who was a very good boy.

I really liked his advice to kids lobbying their parents for a pet. Charming, practical and not at all patronizing.

Probably the best description of a VP's role ever.

If anyone wants some cat time as a balance, here's Walz meeting Pumpkin.

Yeah, it reminds me of the pre-nomination video he did for his cat Honey where he only holds the cat for the introduction shot, immediately puts the cat down, and then doesn't touch the cat for the rest of the video.

Dude knows how to be polite around people and animals.
