While trying to pull up a favorite website I find the USG (Unix Security Guards), a group of so called pro Islamic hackers, have shut the site down. It's all well and good to be protesting the Middle East conflict by interrupting a night of jolly surfing, but why a rock and roll website? Damn hacktivist groups.

Good job punks!

Why a rock and roll site? To get an audience that they might not get elsewhere. The more people that get their message, the better.

And its pretty lame. I wish they'd back up their points with links to proof instead of just random things like "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS Jerusalem THE CAPITAL OF Israel".

As some who grew up listening to the Dead Kennedys, Ramones,
and other bands, let me just say that as far as your remark about punks
is concerned...aaah, I'll get over it.

i don't really know why people would think that ill-targeted hacktivism would win any converts to their cause. it's sort of like slashing the tires of a vw bug to protest the size and arrogance of SUV's.
it's not even a fucking challenge to "hack" the sites most of these kids focus on. I really hesitate to call them hackers. if they brought down abc or something, at least that would be a little more interesting.
but machismo just doesn't ever seem to solve the world's problems.........

Did anyone drop a line to the band?

Usually these kinds of hacks aren't actually targeted at the site's they hit. Usually script kiddie crap like this is done by just doing a blanket scan of ports on a certain subnet, looking for vulnerable systems. Once found they just attack the system regardless of the content.

Oh Dalek don't try waving your punk superiority around me when you can't even recognize sarcasm. Anyway I have been personally insulted by John Lydon so I'm more punk than you anyday! Oh and I do love me some tasty Jelloisms. :)~

punk (pùngk) noun
1.Slang. a. A young person, especially a member of a rebellious counterculture group.
b. An inexperienced young man. [more of this fusion blah blah if you are so inclined]

Rubberhen - knowing the attitude of that band I doubt they would care and even when they do find out they will get a big kick out of it.

Posey, s'right - I only huff n' puff when I'm climbing the stairs.
(The MeFi embargo on smilicons kinda makes that difficult to tell
when I'm having a grin...)

Don't you get bent out of shape by this, but anyone can be insulted by Lydon (yawn); I'm so punk, Iggy Pop and the MC5 don't even acknowledge me.

Oh, and add to the list: Punk: slang (circa 1870) an peak of excitement, ie. he was having a punk time of things by playing with a ball and glove.

I still don't understand why Kevin Mitnick isn't working for the NSA. Give him a handler, an agenda and a list of targets. If we'd cede the War on Drugs, our propaganda would probably be a lot better too.
