Murray Sinclair led Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission

Murray Sinclair, also named Mazina Giizhik, was raised by his grandparents, became one of Canada's first Indigenous lawyers, and remained a force in Manitoba and national politics. He has died at 73.
During the Truth and Reconciliation process, he carefully and compassionately gathered stories from residential school survivors and laid them out in writing for all Canadians to sit with.
He hoped we could find ways to come together, not as one nation but in our many nations, and understand that Canada and First Nations have responsibilities to each other and to our futures.
May we carry forward the tasks he brought us.

We should read and re-read the Truth And Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls To Action. And then act.

A sacred fire will be burning at the Manitoba legislature for people to visit and make offerings.

I had the honour of speaking with him once. It’s a great loss to us but he gave so much. I know he and the Truth and Reconciliation commission and report had a profound impact on my understanding and I definitely seek to continue to support the actions in the small ways I can. Thanks for posting this.

Sad news. He was a great man who did an incredible amount of good in his lifetime.
