When you wish upon a bin

This speaks to me on a deep level. While we haven't been in a while, Mrs. Ghidorah live not very far from Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea, and we used to go from time to time. Maybe ten years ago, we were at Disneyland and we noticed all of the very helpful signs pointing out good places to take pictures, helpfully labelled "Photo Spot." So, we started taking pictures of ourselves in front of the signs. For some of the signs, they were a little awkwardly placed, so we needed to ask people to take pictures for us. I think we managed to find every one of the signs in the park, and along the way, confused a hell of a lot of people.

Later, on a trip to Disney Sea, we saw that they had put up new signs for Video Spots. I have a lovely short clip of Mrs. Ghidorah pointing at one and saying, "This... is a VIDEO SPOT."

When I first read this I thought someone was to analyze the actual trash in the bins and wondered how they got away with it.

Nice try, of course, but they pale compared to the talking trash bins in the Efteling, which are attractions in the literal sense. (Kids will beg their parents for something to throw away just so they can hear the 'dankuwel' response, meaning 'thank you'.)

I feel like it needs an overly elaborate and counterintuitive rating system.

Years ago, the Canadian Centre for Architecture had an exhibit, The Architecture of Reassurance, all about the psychological gameplay Disney does at its parks. Fascinating! One of the features was about the garbage cans, how they're all located above underground conveyor belts, so patrons never have to have their visit spoiled by seeing trash being collected, or overflowing cans.

This has always been the story I heard re:trash cans at Disney parks. Yet, in the linked site, I came across pics of a Disneyworld employee changing trash bags from a receptacle near the castle. *shrugs*

I learned about this by a hilarious character-breaking monologue during an Andy Daly show, all about how he’d taken his kid to Disney World only to have her enchanted by the talking trash bins and not much else

Oh! I've just remembered a Disney memory- someone (not in our party) threw up. We were amazed at the absolute speed that staff appeared out of the woodwork and it was GONE, almost polished off the concrete, and then they disappeared again.
