A 238kg (524 pounds) black bear found hiding under home to survive Los Angeles wildfires.
It took a team of eight experts and nearly 24 hours to remove the bear from underneath the home.
It was a doozy of a day.

"As Berry was too big to tranquillise and drag out, wildlife experts baited him into a trap with tasty food.
This included some apples, peanut butter and rotisserie chicken."
Would have worked on me too.

I thought for a second when I read "welfare check" that they meant, like, a cheque. Literally had a moment of "where the musical fuck do these nimrods think a bear is gonna cash a check, let alone spend the money??"
Good morning! Sounds like the bear is in acceptable health and NOT taking his welfare check to the corner check cashing joint.

They should just let him keep the house.

Given remediation needs, that might be animal cruelty. Also, how will he pay the mortgage?

If you're not in the area, it would seem surprising, but there are bears all over the foothills - they regularly go into people's yards and pools, etc.
I'm more amazed that the bear managed to fit through the vents and get into the crawlspace.

It's nice to hear about a welfare check on a black individual not ending in a death for a change.

I’m so glad Berry is okay. Literally teared up but only an appropriate amount.

Exactly. This is proof that despite the tragedy of the wildfires, Altadena is still Altadena. ❤️
