Hockey is Minnesota borders on being a religion

Hockey in Minnesota borders on being a religion. This past week was the state high school hockey championship (souvenir tournament program).
For the final game on Sunday, over 20,000 were in attendance to see East Grand Forks win over St. Cloud Cathedral. No word on how many watched the live stream.
Perhaps you read about it in the New York Times - ‘Archaeologist of Hockey Hair’
That’s all good, but The Video is now available – bring your own dressing for the salad. Here is the All Hockey Hair presentation (YT)

Hockey in Minnesota, not is.
Not that far from the truth! My oldest brother used to take the week off work in order to watch all the games on local TV.
I was watching the AA championship game last night (from the east coast) and it was excellent hockey. These kids can play, and the fans are passionate and knowledgable. Plus, it's fun to know that a matchup like Thursday's Luverne vs. Hibbing is two little communities whose fate a ton of fans get invested in.

I do love the name Hibbing. So fun to say.
Not sure I ever made it through Hibbing. Always rooted for them as well.
And it is really good hockey. They aren't fighting, just playing. Was very fun to watch.
I played hockey in Kansas City from age 6-12. Realized I was never going to be big enough to keep playing hockey. Wish I had gotten a chance to be a goaltender. Which I did in high school soccer, but again, too short with short arms for that. Was pretty great at indoor until my body fell apart...
"Let's do that Hockey"
EDIT: I still have great hair

And Minnesota borders on Canada. Yup, that tracks.
I used to room with a guy from Duluth. He had a thicker Canadian accent than I did.
Also knew the lyrics to every Rush song.

It's critical we add the important news that that Moorhead finally won the AA boys state tournament yesterday. Moorhead is a huge on hockey, but they lost 8 championships between 1992 and 2017. Matt Cullen came from Moorhead, and when he was in high school they fell short. Now after three Stanley Cup wins, he's back in Moorhead as an assistant coach and they won the state tournament!
...Yes, I may be from Minnesota.

Also, some kid from Stillwater knocked the net off its pegs because their goalie was getting swarmed, which was a serious bush league, rules-lawyering move to stop play.

Whateverrr, Thurston Howell III.
I was there as a wee sprat when they beat your Ivy League buddies from Brown 16-2, ten years earlier, in the ol' drafty barn that always smelled like popcorn (except for the first few minutes of the 2nd & 3rd periods, when cigarette smoke wafted back in with everyone who had booked it outside to grab a butt).

I live in Moorhead and their win is a big deal here!
Also, they're called the Moorhead Spuds, which my Wisconsin-born wife secretly adores but outwardly abhors.
Potatoes are also a big deal here.
The private college here are the Cobbers, after the corn field that was their first football arena, so we have a history of naming sports teams after nonthreatening foodstuffs

Completely blew my mind that the tournament was live on the TV. Loved watching that tournament. Don't remember the skateups, and I think that was before we all knew about the lettuce and the flow.
Guy does have a great "Minnesota voice".
I always rooted for White Bear Mariner, what a great name that makes no sense! Sadly, they merged and changed their name.
