Crime experts in the spotlight

Crime experts in the spotlight - The sniper shootings are an ugly mark against society, but they've been a boon for my alma mater's criminal justice program and the likes of James Fox, Jack Levin and Edith Flynn. It has to be quite a contradiction for people in this line of work: The longer the killing spree goes, the more attention they get, but more innocent victims die.

I hardly think that is an issue to these people.

Mediaman, your Post link didn't reference any of the people you mentioned.

You can't throw a rock without hitting someone who profited off of tragedy. Who do you think Greta Van Susteren and Johnnie Cochran owe their millions to?

messages from criminals can be obtusely written or rife with grammatical errors that may or may not be intentional.

That kind of sounds like Mefi posts.

yeah, i don't get the connection between those 3 folks and the sniper investigation. have they been on TV lately? only the Fox guy specializes in serial/mass murder.

anyway, i haven't read much information about the police work, but i think the longer this goes on, the worse these folks look b/c they can't catch him/them.

Already I've heard more than one of these talking heads say, roughly, "This isn't CSI, and won't be solved in an hour."

There's a bit of a moral dilemma there, but it pales in comparison to that of the investigators -- as public safety officials they naturally hope there will be no more murders, but only more murders will bring more clues. There's got to be a perverse sense of uplift at each new incident.
