Finally, a holiday we can all get behind. Saturday, November 2 is the American Homebrewers Association’s 4th Annual Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day. Find a location near you to help you create the nectar of the gods. "To alcohol! The cause of – and solution to – all of life’s problems."

Looks like I'll have to plan a recipe for that day. UncleFes got me started on homebrewing during the course of this thread about beer, a little more than a year ago. Homebrewing has definitely become one of my most enjoyable hobbies.

I've been a mead-brewer for the past 5 years. It's been a very rewarding experience, and makes me a hit at parties.

For those not in the know, mead is honey and water, fermented. It's usually around 15% alcohol, and quite tasty, especially when flavored with fresh fruits.

I've done beer too, so if any of y'all want pointers or suggestions, feel free to email.

Sweet! The link to the "Good Eats" ep where AB does beer. I still haven't seen that one. Was it any good?

ABC is the easiest and best mead recipe I've ever seen. Guaranteed to be consumed before it reaches it's prime.

Yep, very simple and straightforward, with a focus on food safety.

I've been brewing for about a year and a half. I recommend it very highly.

Even if you're not particularly interested in brewing, or if you don't currently have the time/space/money to get into it, keep in mind that a brew club is, basically, a bunch of guys who want to give you free beer. It may be worth your while to check out a meeting.

Mmmm, homemade beer... Brings back childhood memories. My parents made homebrew when we lived in a small fishing village in Alaska. We lived for months in the town's only hotel while our house was being built and, as I remember, the sound of the occasional exploding beer bottle at odd hours tended to alarm and puzzle the other guests.

In honor of this grand holiday, especially for mefites: beer pancakes, brew haiku, and a pony!

I've been meaning to try home brewing as well. And considering this event falls on my birthday, I just may have found a good way to spend the day...

Now I just need to find someone to teach me...
