Some Friday Fun "Banja is destined for everyone. Here, it is not a question of conquering, but of evolving within a whole way of life and of discovering its mysteries." Not a game for the bandwidth-challenged, unless you're REALLY patient.

It may be Friday fun, but it's gonna take Friday, Saturday, and maybe Sunday to get through that freakin' survey...sheesh...

... and they process registration manually?

so i spend about 10 minutes filling out that freakin form, and then they tell me its a manual process??

Something tells me that email will be deleted as soon as it arrives...

Well... I finished their little survey, they sent one of their men over, ("James"). He and I had a nice little talk.

I made some poundcake, and we had coffee while we finished the particulars.

He says that they'll let me know as soon as next week if I am allowed to play the game.

(Fingers crossed!)

"Patience, my ass! I wanna kill something."

Oops, wrong game, wrong decade. ;-P

Gosh. It's huge, it's slow and it turns out to be some rastafarian cartoon character bumbling about a village where there are command options on everything (as I remember many months ago from a MetaFilter thread about "bring your child to work day" or something).

Good luck to those who enjoy it. I flipped it off my hard drive faster than a smoking waffle.

Hmmm... actually, I was validated rather quickly (less than ten minutes) and with a cabled connection and an Athlon 1.6 chip, things went fairly smoothly.

I was really amazed that things evolve in REAL TIME. So if you want to "sleep" your character, you walk away from the system for that amount of time.

Oh dear lord... and just when I got over my Everquest addiction.

banja is worth it if you have the time and a fast connection....
I was playing for months and months, and eagerly awaited each new chapter... and it's an incredibly realized place (each road you take or person or thing you see has some sort of active element and interactive possibility...)

And the pictorial conversations are a great model for communication in a multi-lingual world...

brings to mind Kramer's quip, "why does Radio Shack ask for your phone number when you buy batteries?"

No way i'm filling out that form to play a flash game. No commercial exploitation? Whatever, i can't think of another reason they'd need to know whether I own a tv.
