Barbers getting snippy with Jesse In a beautiful turnabout, a group of barbers is demanding an apology from Jesse Jackson for his previous call for action against the movie "Barbershop."

This is my favorite story ever. I thought that they made a pretty good point, too.

"We, as blacks, have to let the movie studios know that when he (Jackson) is wrong, we're willing to speak out for ourselves," Stern said.

Thank God.

Arch-conservative takes a firm side in a fight between Hollywood liberals and Jesse Jackson. Film at 11. (The sequel to the left deciding between Southern Baptists and global conglomerate Disney.)

Hee. That's the first time that I've ever been called conservative. I might put that on my wall.

ack, I need sleep. After reading the post, I read the article and wondered how Jesse Ventura figured in to this. The Wellstone articles had me seeing that the governor of Minnesota had called for action against Barbershop.

The people being attacked by Jackson weren't barbers, really, but film people (who the barbers apparently like for flattering them in a movie) - and you gotta admit, it's curious seeing you aligned with them, just as it was odd seeing people on the far left sympathizing with Disney a few years back.

Well I could be wrong, but the way I saw it wasn't Film Maker (via Barber) vs. Jackson....

I saw it as, normal every day African-Americans saying that Jesse Jackson doesn't speak for all African-Americans, as he pretends to do...

I don't remember when they held the elections for "Leader of the Black Community" but Jackson is claiming victory...

Like I said, I could be wrong...

You really do have a hair up your ass about Jesse Jackson...
I'm shocked! shocked! to see you honking off about him here.

Given this was one of the more idiotic, petty-minded, censorious things that Jesse Jackson has ever done, there ought to be more people siding with the filmmakers -- and barbers.

Poster gets defensive reaction for merely pointing out something rather curious and ironical. Film at 10.

I found exactly four search results in Google for "National Association of Cosmetologists," by the way. There is no reference to Jackson at the news release section of the National Cosmetology Association site.

Aw, shucks, raysmj, I was having so much fun telling people that someone called me conservative. Oh well.

Thanks for the invite, Steve. I'm afraid that you wouldn't want me in your club. In addition to "arch conservative," which I guess I have to give up now, I also go by "pinko."

raysmj makes yet another lame fake news headline. Film at 10.

There is no reference to Jackson at the news release section...

Those two faced lairs at CNN!

You don't think CNN is capable of error, or being fooled by a non-existent or barely there interest or trade group? Now you're an archconservative who thinks CNN is totally trustworthy. (I'm a moderate liberal who never thought that, ever.)

Here's a recent goody reported at CNN (and many other places) that turned out to be false.
posted by raysmj at 10:26 PM on October 25, 2002

Please do not assume what I do or do not think, unless I expressly tell you my opinion.

With further review, it is actually a Reuters story, not a CNN story... Yes I believe that Reuters is capable of error, but you are not accusing them of error, but of printing a false story.

As for a "non-existennt or barely there" trade group, well you found the website so that rules out "non-existennt" and a little poking around at the website will find you a Political Action Committee (NCA-PAC), as well as a newsletter that has highlights from "HairWorld 2002" a national Salon Professional competition, so I would say that they "are more than barely there"...

As for being "fooled"... Well that is unknown... Your word against Reuters... (I have not special love for Reuters, mind you)

Point withstanding: Jackson is a hypocrite you need to quit pitting white and black people against each other for his own financial gain...

You ignorant slut. The NCA and the one referenced in the Reuters story *are not the same group*. Go to bed.

Do you see a James Stern on that board of directors list? I don't think so. Also, learn your classic SNL lines, immediately.

Maybe it's this guy, or perhaps this guy. Or, alternatively, this guy. It's definitely not these guys or these guys.

Hey raysmj: Your fake group filed a lawsuit Monday...

So much for that theory, hey?
