War of the Worlds (this is not about Bush) Don't own a television? Want an alternative? Live performance, live orchestra, no net. October 30, 2002 8-9 PM Eastern. Glenn Beck recreates Orson Welles chilling performance that captivated a nation along with full orchestrations and foley effects. this is a radio broadcast

Orson Welles is fine and dandy, but my favorite War of the Worlds is still the Jeff Wayne double album, with Richard Burton narrating. Scared the hell out of me when I was a kid, and the tunes are still pompous funky art rock fun. Ulllllaaa!

Nothing in my area unfortunately. No TV and would have loved to hear it. Shame.

Lampshade, sounds like they are constantly updating who is going to be broadcasting it. May want to continue to check back with the site.

I'm not so sure, Runs. The guy who's doing it has a set website with local affiliates... strangely the only affiliate for NYC is a Sunday-only feed. Which means even though WotW takes place in New Jersey, no one in the North Jersey/New York City area will be able to listen to the invasion.

This looks like fun! Glad it will be on in my area.

Post event comment:

I spent an hour listening to this last night. It would have been better spent re-listening to muckster's recommendation. I purchased Jeff Wayne double album on vinyl when it first debuted and later purchased the CDs, it's one of the best narrative stories produced. Ulllllaaa indeed.

I'd also recommend the ZBS Jack Flanders' "Fourth Tower of Inverness" (this thread) although it is a much longer listen and suitably surreal.
