Am I the only one finding this URL odd, considering the content: But for those of you interested in more devilish Jakob fun, check out use.it.or.lose.it

The article can also be found at http://www.useit.com/alertbox/990321.html, which is a bit better.

#1. Mefi homepage screwed by this post in IE6, Win98;
#2. Clicking the link brought up a 'Gator' /Gain pop-up asking me to d/l a clock - which I nearly agreed to.
Please - warnings!

This post seriously facked up the Metafilter front page when viewed with Mozilla on Win2K too.

I would have clicked on your link but since it wasn't colored blue and on a white background- I couldn't find it....

the reason that the post is messed-up looking is that the url posted is too long to fit in the available space, and browsers won't wrap it because it looks like one word to them.
so it slammed it down below the sideblog.
(at least i think that's what's going on. if matt sticks a space in the url it should wrap and fix the problem).

Don't the gator pop-ups only appear if your computer is loaded with spyware?

now I'm afraid to click the link for fear of a Gator sneak attack. I ain't clickin' a link with an .exe at the end of it. Somebody tell me - what's the story?

Well here's the original URL, which isn't nearly so bad...

Good point on the many people who have given the original URL but I got the long link off Nielsen's search engine. Shouldn't he have his search engine point to the proper page?

BTW, sorry on f8cking up the front page. It seemed allright when I previewed it.

Well, thats interesting, Veritron, because my ad-aware often finds something gator related, but for the life of me, i cannot find what it is that's inspiring that. Something my daughter has installed I guess?

Geez, how did I miss that first comment from einarorn? I guess my eyes must have been drawn instantly to holloway's umm-mumming. Can't help but feel there's a usability lesson here somewhere.....

i advise all people to download crazybrowser if you're on windows. it's simply the best browser around - stops popups, tabbed browsing - the works, you wont be disappointed.

as for the post, i'm a bit flummoxed - you're posting a front page article asking why a url is odd? what do you find odd about it?? i get that the page is saying have simple urls when this is hardly that - is that your point? if so i guess the lesson is "do what i say - not what i do"

Hmm, a page for a browser that says it will kill pop-ups...which loads a pop-up window that in turn advertises another product that says it will kill pop-ups?
