Moon Resort and Casino

MOON: Because you've been everywhere else. [warning: sound and flash]
"Moon Resort and Casino will be an escape into the future with hundreds of attractions including a giant lunar-themed aquatic center, exclusive shopping complex, terrestrial biosphere, moon buggy rides, and its own International Space Station. Nestled between the [10,000 room] hotel's dramatic wings will be the centerpiece of the resort, the Moon itself, towering over 350 feet and housing the world's largest casino." The creator is not without controversy, but Robin Leach is already on board.

i know it's monday and all, but it took me a while to discern that this would not be built on the actual moon. woah.

...I hope the Moon's surface is accurate.

...some of the artwork/rendering scream of Syd Mead. Why not, he's the master.

Robin Leach is wrong. Why build in Vegas when you can actually build the damn resort on the moon itself?

Were this fark, we'd have the photoshop-edited architectural rendering by now.

And serafinapekkala, I thought the same thing you did.

Ah, but this isn't Fark. Thank god.
(It isn't up over there, is it? I didn't check.)

They were running out of places on Earth to emulate in Vegas. This is the next logical step. But I'm sorry it's not on the actual Moon -- the low-G craps would be awesome!

me3dia, it's already on Fark

the low-G craps

again with the Monday...my gaming-impaired self read this totally the wrong way.

running out of places on Earth to emulate in Vegas

pretty soon they'll have to emulate Vegas itself: "MetaVegas Resort and Casino"! i guess a "Hell" theme would be fun too, but it might be a little redundant...

In a way, the Downtown properties are already the MetaVegas theme area. They're deliberately keeping themselves retro and tacky to appeal to the traditionalist gamblers. As for the "Hell" theme -- the Trop in Atlantic City has a "Nickel Hell" area to compliment its "Nickel Heaven". They call it "Red Hot Nickels", but the little devil cartoons on all the slot banks make it obvious what the real name of the place is.

If you watch the video, about 4:40 in there's a Segway in one of the renderings.

"They'll build whole resorts around it!"

On another note, I still hope to see a real moon resort sometime. Maybe the Dot Communists in China will get the ball rolling with their new space program.

a giant lunar-themed aquatic center

Anybody else bothered by the conceptual problems with this? Isn't it kind of like "a huge amazon jungle-themed skating rink" or "an enormous Dante's Inferno-themed day spa"? A little incongruous, no?

The lunar-themed aquatic center bugged me too. It's like a desert-themed wharf. Or a capitalist-themed Worker's Paradise.

I would totally live on the moon. I didn't pick up that this wasn't on the moon itself, and after having this pointed out, I still won't pick it up. Ewww.

I would *so* go live on the moon.

Ok, let's just get this out of the way right now:

That's no moon...

The next logical step - a Las Vegas themed casino on the moon.
posted by iamck at 7:53 PM on November 25, 2002

Henderson intends to raise money to finance his concept and doesn't yet have a potential site under contract.

The press report said that observers are skeptical. Financing is difficult, land is scarce and the project is twice the cost of... a planned casino resort that would be the most expensive ever built in Las Vegas.

I'll lay 3 to 1 the Vegas-themed lunar resort opens before the lunar-themed Vegas resort does.
