Beautiful. Thank you. I'd buy a copy if they were available (are they?).

glad you all like! Beth: I looked on Amazon for this book, and didn't see it. So, I looked a little harder and found one at ebay, via sotheby's. The price is a bit steep though.

Wonderful link!

For those interested in more art associated with the Rubaiyat, there's a very interesting edition that contains a selection of the author's favorite illustrations from classic English editions. She also went through Fitzgerald's many translations and selected the "best" of them stanza by stanza to create a hybrid version. (Some of the Dulac illustrations may be viewed at dubious resolution at this self link.)

The first thing I thought of was the mayor's wife in The Music Man: "The Ruby Hat of Omar Khay...yi...yi...I am appalled!"

These are absolutely gorgeous--I love this one. I like the idea that we're writing about internet representations of drawings of imaginary reliefs that themselves are illustrations of poems that represent ideas about life...it's all very meta.

Some of you poetry fiends are now wondering, ...but can I look at Blake's illuminated books somewhere?... Heck yeah!

Flowers from your lips, condour75...

A few more Vedder images here. (I love "Listening to the Sphinx".)
