give heather the gift of moby

heather champ is looking to get moby to submit a shot himself to the mirror project by her fortieth birthday. now moby's taken shots of himself in several reflective surfaces before and he even keeps a weblog - so he's pretty much the mirror project's target audience. as of today, there's only eighty.one days left for heather's dream to become a reality. spread the word and make one gal's dream a reality.

Hey Moby, why do you want to crush your fan's dreams? You must really hate them.

Moby: If you don't submit to the Mirror Project, then Eminem will have won.

Eminem won long ago...

For the love of God, Moby, forteen year old girls don't have much else to live for. If some celebrity aknowledges their existance it can really make all the acne and the boy trouble go away. Just make this young girl's dream come true. Please, Moby. Do it. Prove you're better than Britney and Avril!

Wait... fortieth? Oh give me a fucking break.

I heard that Heather sent some "friends" to "discuss" this issue with Moby in Boston a few months back. Heard it didn't quite go "as planned". Heard they put the blame on some pale hip hop star.

So...is anyone trolling Moby's messageboards trying to bring this topic to his attention yet?

when my head is freshly shaven, i look sort of like a spooky moby. we could fake it.

um, as a participant in said project, I'd like to offer that moby blows.

sometimes you look around the grim world, and you innocents die, and you see disease and plague and inhumanity and you think to yourself... why can't moby be among them?

Hey, a guy who shares most of our politics and tastes in music who uses the web for personal expression! Let's get him!

I think you're taking this thread a little too seriously, Anil.

I dunno, thinking that Moby should die? That's pretty serious. What's with all the Moby hate?

I for one fell away from the Moby fold for a while, but I came back when he was attacked by a feral cat that he tried to show a little compassion towards on NYC's mean streets. The cat scratched him up, leaving Moby with a nasty infection which required many antibiotics and caused a lot of pain.

In response, Moby, renowned vegan and believer in the rights of all creatures, said that if he ever saw that cat again, he'd catch it, kill it and eat it.

How can you hate after that?

no, i don't want moby just to die, i'd like to see him maimed by a pack of wild dogs and beaten over the head first, then he could die.

or he could just die.

i'm easy to please.

... I like Moby ... he's about the only musician who can talk intelligably about anything and make sense at the same time ...

What! If by that you mean talk like a pompous, pretentious jackass and run his damned mouth; sure.

Okay I'll stop, sorry.

Lots of mirror people here at metafilter. Like heather.

one of the coolest projects online ever. Her birthday is past though...and i hope moby will find out. She isn't some teen obsessing over they guy...she just thought that some of his pics would work in the project.

i guess the profundity of the mirror project escapes me... i've never been compelled to look at it til now - superficially, i just wanted to see what mcsweetie looks like - and uhm, so... a lot of people like to look at themselves and have others look at them too. so that's pretty routine human vanity stuffs, and definitely something i'd expect from webloggers.

i lost interest after looking at 3 diff people and can understand why a person wouldn't have any interest in being part of it.

so moby? how's it feel to be named after a famous dick?

How hard would it be for Moby's corporation to send a publicity mirror shot? The petty bastards.

But posting Moby on the Mirror Project would be against Heather's own rules! Months back I was inspired to participate but she would not accept a submission of my photo because she thought my name was too weird, and would not believe that is was my given legal birth name despite my pointing out that it really is. Her "proof" was that my domain was registered in someone else's name, not mine (it was my husband who registered it). I don't know much about Moby (and don't care to) but my guess is that it's not his real name. Will she not use his photo if he insists on being called Moby? Probably it's ok since he is mister famous guy and all.

Funny thing is that if I would have lied and used a more "normal" name, my submission would not have been questioned. But because I followed the rules and used my real name, I wasn't allowed in the cool kids club. Whatever.
posted by RoseovSharon at 2:54 PM on February 8, 2003

Moby's real name is Richard Melville Hall. He took the name Moby way long ago because he's the descendant of the famous author. He was called that even before he got famous. I knew him as Moby back in high school in suburban Connecticut more than 20 years ago.

I'm sure heather would happily accept a picture from him, regardless of which name he used. But she definitely wouldn't accept one of those mirror pics of his submitted by someone else, without his permission.

(And I really have say, this thread really typifies everything I despise about Metafilter.)

You didn't have to say it, you made an effort to. And if you really have a problem, take it to metatalk.

i think fraying is definitely an expert on receiving undeserved criticism of his projects. Wouldn't you say? I've always thought it boils down to jealousy veiled by lack of interest.
