now available! As someone who loved T1 & T2 this looks like mostly a rehash of those two. What's your take?

sorry, i goofed up the title, and wasn't sure how to fix/delete it. This should read "Terminator 3 trailer now available!"

The T3 trailer has been "available" for weeks now. That said, the movie looks like it will suck the chrome off of Arnie's endoskeleton.

And by suck I mean totally blow.

I would link to that old MeFi post about viral marketing, but I'm way too lazy.

On the other hand, this and of course this one look promising.

ps: I suspect this thread will be terminated by Matt.

I'm not sure about this move. On one hand, it may turn out to be terrible. But more likely, it will simply be atrocious.

A single movie preview does not a thread make. This would be a great post to your own blog, but it doesn't rise to the level where all 16,000 of us need to see it.

While the thread lasts, here's David Foster Wallace talking about the first two films.

Here's my impersonation of this thread, speaking out to the metafilter community using a large megaphone:

"Hello... Please terminate me."

Yeah, I'm scared this is going to suck ass.

I was kind of amused that Edward Furlong wasn't approached to reprise his role as John. That can't be a good sign.

No mom, either. Yeah, this is just going to help Arnie pay for gas on his hummer for the next few years.

Too bad, too. He held out for T2 only is Cameron would do it, if I remember correctly.

"She'll be back"... ugh. At what point exactly did Arnold become a walking parody of himself? I'd like to say Batman and Robin, but I fear it was long before then.

Isn't that the fate of all mega-movie stars or super celebrities? Self Parody. Usually they don't even know they are doing it. Some do, and you can tell by the wild look in their eyes, and the single tear that traces its way down their cheek.

You're just a tool of the luncheon meat people, Peter. Every time you post that, it's just one more free advertisement for them.

well gary, what tool does that make you for posting after both of my posts? this is the last time i'll say something about this ad spam, but this post is total ad spam. (p.s. ad spam)

My favorite bit of the Hulk commercial is where he swings a tank around by the cannon.

I mean, unless the hulk weighs like 90 tons, wouldn't he go swinging around the tank instead of the tank swinging around him? Of course, I am demanding physics realism from a movie where gamma rays make a guy grow huge and green whenever he gets angry.

well gary, what tool does that make you for posting after both of my posts?

I'm the sort of tool who's grown tired of posts like "who Cares?", "*yawn*" and "I wouldn't know what a terminator is, I don't own a movie theater". If you're going to be snarky about a post that's most likely going to be deleted, you could at least be creative. Simpson quotes also seem acceptable if you’re uncreative like me .

Back to the matter at hand... No matter how bad this movie is, it'll be a welcome relief coming the week after the Charlie's Angels sequel.

Ah, but doesn't Arnold have serious political ambitions? It would indeed be scary if those came to fruition.

The original movie had me thinking that if I wanted to off Sarah Connor and sent a cyborg into the past, it wouldn't look like Ahnuld -- it would look like 70-year old, 4'11" Sadie Finkelstein, who would track down Sarah Connor, reach up and break that girl's fool neck.

alumshubby: That was Cameron's original idea, that the Terminator would be this nobody-schlub that you wouldn't even notice until it was killing you. The original Terminator was going to be Lance Henriksen; there are even early drafts of a movie poster with him on it.

Then Cameron met Arnie as a favor to someone, with the idea of casting him as Reese, and they went away and both had the idea that he'd be a good Terminator of a different species.

That T-3 looks to have about zilch involvement from Cameron gets me saying DANGER WILL ROBINSON!

Conception?

Conan the Barbarian, certainly.

You sent me to an MSN site!! It dropped my display to 4-bit color then spit out a postage stamp trailer when I set speed to 300K! Delete this thread, It has no merit.

Captain: "I don't wanna hear it, McBain. Th-that cannon of yours is against regulation. In this department we go by the book."
[Captain hold up book. McBain then fires cannon and blows book apart.]
McBain: "Bye, book."

...That has nothing to do with the imminent box office bomb/major disappointment that Terminator 3 will be, but it does satirize the enduring cheesiness of Arnold's action movies.
