Linkalicious Weblogs Of The World

Oh Just Read The Whole Thing, Will You? I give up. There are just too many great links, intelligently woven together and presented on new things: a weblog, to plunder one by one. It deserves a place up there with plep, woods lot, Bifurcated Rivets, Coudal Partners, Portage and similarly venerable company: lots of fresh links assiduously updated, and loads of personality. And a few recent and classic MetaFilter hits provide a welcoming familiarity...[Dibs on the unusual playing cards!]

Okay. Somebody give. Miguel posts it, languagehat proofs it (last graf), iconomy's "unusual playing cards"... who is/are "things"?

Coolest thing on that page has to be the Soviet Synths page, if only for the URL, www.ruskeys.net. Though the Demo Composition (zipped mp3) is very cool indeed.

(Note to Safari users: Don't bother. CSS rendering results in black text on a black layer...)

Well, I've been keeping it under my hat, but now that the secret's out, go read the things.

Taz, stop tickling me, dammit!

I mentioned newthings here a few weeks ago in a thread started by plep, in which languagehat contributed.

pxe2000, I sincerely hope you're thinking of "The Specialist's Hat," which is the only similar title in this bibliography. One reason I chose the moniker is uniqueness; so far as I know, if you Google "languagehat" all you get is me. (For some reason, Google always suggests "languagegate" instead, although that only has 247 results and I have 2,230. Get with the program, Google! I mean, you bought me, you might as well support me!) So I would be distressed if I've been preempted.

iconomy, the first rule of the Circle is that we don't talk about the Circle.

Urk. First Fight Club, and then 9622, and now The Circle? I can't keep up!

Ooops. I just mentioned it again, didn't I? Sorry.

Anyway, to get back to the topic at hand, these sorts of "all over the place link-wise" weblogs are wonderful in every way. I think newthings and portage and plep are my 3 favorite linkolicious culture weblogs; they never pander, and are diverse, and quick to download, which, when you're on a dial-up, is definitely a consideration. I also like speckled paint for the way it combines journal-type entries, news, weird web links, old fashioned clip art and beautiful photography, and like plep, it occasionally exhausts a subject with links.

I like this post. It reminds me of the good old days when MetaFilter talked a lot about weblogs.
