Amy Goodman AMERICAN HERO but not on WAMC? Democracy now an informitive and hard hitting program produced by Pacifica Radio was asked for many, many times during WAMC's recent fund drive prompting WAMC's dictator in charge alan chartock to state "its on a lot of stations but not WAMC" Why is that? Afraid of rousing the ire of AG ashcroft?I think we should see if old alan is up to giving a good reason why!

"Afraid of rousing the ire of AG ashcroft?"

Yes. Obviously.

If your local public radio station doesn't include a show you personally think they should, it is clear evidence that Ashcroft is trying to keep this show off the air in your area. And don't let the fact that this program airs on lots of other stations dissuade you from believing in this conspiracy. Clearly the Ashrcoft/Bush junta has targeted your station.

In fact I suspect almost all of the things that violate your personal preferences can be linked back to Ashcroft's meddling with your liberty. Listen to the odd voices in your head. They won't steer you wrong.

Huh?

Your local NPR affiliate doesn't carry a show that you enjoy. Is that what this post is about? My NPR affiliate also excludes a lot of my favorite shows, but unless Alan Chartock reads Metafilter this post may be in vain. I doubt Ashcroft has time to critique each NPR station's offerings.

On preview, y6y6y6 said it much better than I.

hoopyfrood, were you under the mistaken impression that MetaFilter's front page is the appropriate place to air your personal grievances?

Here's a hint: Any post with a sentence that begins, "I think we should ..." is probably a bad idea.

hoopyfrood - slowly back away from the crack rock. Assuming that you live in WAMC's listening area, it seems to be available on WRPI out of Troy.

Now
informative
it's
Alan
Chartrock
Ashcroft
Alan again
Oh, some spaces and commas are missing too. Are you sure you listen to public radio?

Amy Goodman's whiny, conspiratorial smarminess spells sudden death for public radio audiences - people just tune her out. Democracy Now is not an NPR program, it's a Pacifica program, so let them run it - they own their own stations after all.

Speaking of Pacifica, does it still call it's war coverage "Attack on Freedom"? Wherever you are on the political spectrum that is amusing (but for different reasons).

Considering Ms Goodman was the recent subject of an article in the WaPo -- the front page of the Style section no less -- I don't think there is any great conspiracy by the man to keep her down.

As a resident in the WAMC region here is some info. Mr Chartok is not widely adored. but thats not really important. However he has said over and over again he does *not* want to duplicate offerings on WAMC that are available elsewhere in the region. And if as oen of the previous posts have said its available from WRPI in Troy. Putting it on WAMC would essentially be wasted airtime for those who don't wish tohear the show and can listen to WRPI. This is common sense economics. So basically to all the people caling in during the fund drive and whining, and then using this forum to whine.. get over your damned self.

I find the shrill, antagonistic rhetoric of Amy Goodman's propaganda as annoying and anti-intellectual as Bill O'Reilly or Ann Coulter. Goodman is more interested in opposing dogma with dogma than she is in exposing lies with truth.

I like independent media, I like NPR, but I stopped supporting my local public radio station when they dropped a half hour of "Morning Edition" to air "Democracy Now."
