This is definitely not a tradition in my family (I grew up in the NYC area). I had never heard of the name or the activities associated with it until a few years ago from a friend who came from the Buffalo area. Buffalo has a much larger Polish population than Rochester (our one Polish bakery closed just before Easter weekend).
