I'm going. I don't know what to expect, having never gone to the previous ones, but I'm sure it will be a good time for all.

I went to the first one in '98. It wasn't great. A lot of people had clearly put a lot of time into getting it together, but the night was incoherent, with everyone bumbling around: "Is this a party? A symposium? What's going on?" And in my opinion one of the people who originated it used it to indulge in an awful lot of ego-stroking and self-aggrandisement.

Still, I have heard that '99 was cool, so I'm thinking about going to 2000. Since it's longer this year, there's less of a chance that the party aspects will drown out the panelists. And the idea behind it is certainly worthwhile.

My main reason for not going is it's in San Francisco. As cool as it would be, travelling across the continent and through another country, just isn't going to happen this year. :-)
