"Take your shoe-sies off"? This is bad stuff jmgorman. Softcore child pr0n, if you ask me. Which clearly you did by posting here btw. The only surprise was not once did their skirts 'mistakenly' bounce up to show panties.

Oh yeah, Tatu 2.

sorry 'bout that everyone. I forgot the qt warning.

Softcore child pr0n? How do you figure? The video is downright wholesome compared to the Brittney/Christina/JLo stuff that the kids are watching here in the states.

I like the Cheeky Girls. Though their 'song' is horrid beyond reckoning, they posess many of the physical traits admired by the superficial male.

GOD DAMN IT, EUROPE

I shall never forgive you for this post. I fear the damage done to me this day is permanent.
That was horrible. Words cannot describe it.

The horror
The horror

GOD DAMN IT, EUROPE

My feelings exactly, and probably Terry Gilliam's after he tried to film his Don Quixote opus.

Softcore child porn? Not only is the video quite tame, according to that web site the cheeky girls are 20 years old. Just because you got turned on, doesn't mean it was porn.

Given a choice of my daughter listening to the cheeky girls suggesting that she take off her shoes and feel the teenage freedom or britney expressing her desire to be hit one more time, I'll take the cheeky girls any day of the week, and twice on tuesdays.
posted by mosch at 12:41 PM on May 30, 2003

Two more things: it sounds like it is vaguely imitating J-Pop. And damn you to hell jmgorman, I can't get the song out of my head now.
posted by insomnyuk at 12:44 PM on May 30, 2003

you are all terrible arbiters of taste.

cheeky girls are taking over the nation.

represent.

(god, live a little, you curmudgeons.)

I like it when they keep their shoes on.
posted by monkeyman at 12:53 PM on May 30, 2003

They're too skinny. If one of them put a fur coat on she'd look like a pipe cleaner.
posted by vito90 at 12:59 PM on May 30, 2003

I think fishfucker is my new hero.
posted by christian at 1:03 PM on May 30, 2003

They may be 20 but they sure don't look it; they compare quite easily to the nasty spam I get on the topic. And there was a reason I said softcore, you know, with all the veiled lyrical and visual d.e., to sneak past some people's radar since the goal is to make $$$ (sorry, no Euro symbol on my keyboard yet).
posted by billsaysthis at 1:13 PM on May 30, 2003

fishfucker is my hero. I'm waiting for the cheeky twins to tour with fanny pack. That will rule.

Touch my bum.
posted by iamck at 1:16 PM on May 30, 2003

iamck, I hardly know you. I can't very well touch your bum right now. How about dinner first?
posted by christian at 1:21 PM on May 30, 2003

This is a joke, right? I mean, their first single was "Cheeky Girls (Touch My Bum)"! Was Mike Myers executive producer?

On preview: iamck beat me to it.

jmgorman: do you know what a fanny is in England?
posted by witchstone at 1:46 PM on May 30, 2003

Touch my bum - I think this might make it in American pop - Take off your shoes doesn't quite get it. If they promote Touch my bum here, we'll be hearing lots of it.
posted by pyramid termite at 1:46 PM on May 30, 2003

i'm going to agree with fishfucker and mosch on this one as well, compared to similar American artists, the Cheeky Girls seem harmless and sweet. If i have to listen to pop drivel, i would prefer it entertain me on at least some level. If that level is making me laugh, i'm ok with that.
posted by quin at 1:57 PM on May 30, 2003

No witchstone, I don't specifically know what the fanny is in the UK (although I can imagine how billsaysthis will react to the definition).

jmgorman as Jim Davidson said, you are |-----------------------| this far out...

God the cheeky girls are bad. But I didn't realise that they hadn't been sent over the ocean yet. Good to see thier agents are spreading the pleasure... ;)
posted by twine42 at 2:29 PM on May 30, 2003

Guys, they already touched our bums once. People will go crazy about double posting over a news article, but bad European dance music seems to be fine. :) :) :)

Metafilter: Take off your shoes and touch my bum.
posted by qDot at 2:40 PM on May 30, 2003

It didn't look at all like they were cheeky.

Maybe 20 more pounds apiece would do it.

Whatever keeps Eastern European girls out of prostitution, suicide, and/or death by alcohol/starvation/misery is fine with me.

If this really hurts to watch, you can always wash your brain out with Electric Six's Danger! High voltage.

Mosch - I'll take the cheeky girls any day of the week, and twice on tuesdays.
Aren't out-of-context quotes wonderful? As for the Cheeky Girls looking younger than they are - you obviously haven't seen them being interviewed - they look like tired old has-beens trying to come across as cute teenagers and failing. Don't blame Europe blame Romania (Now there's an election slogan).
posted by jamespake at 5:01 PM on May 30, 2003

condour75 - that was hilariously tacky

I think I just stepped in some bubble gum. Thank goodness I kept my shoes on.
posted by dakotadusk at 7:58 PM on May 30, 2003

"Disco music never ends."

Indeed.

Softcore child pr0n? You may wish to file a civil suit against your optometrist. They show more provocative material on Nickelodeon.

Romania must be a hell of a place to grow up, because those girls look a generous amount over 20. They are rather fit however.

Also, the editor that did the CG titles on that video deserves some sort of award. The CG is literally perfect for the material.

If you find yourself resilient enough to withstand bum touching, shoe removal and high voltage then perhaps you are strong enough to set it off (Windows Media).
posted by darksquirrel at 11:11 PM on May 30, 2003

The Electric Six song is really the way to go for summer fun. Class act all the way.

Secondly, I think "GOD DAMN IT, EUROPE" is the most insightful commentary I've read on the internet in a long time.

The voice of the chick in the Danger! High Voltage video is actually the guy from The White Stripes /trivia>

jamespake, you're a bad person.

i respect that.
posted by mosch at 6:56 AM on May 31, 2003

anyone else here get that Cheeky Girls URL spammed into their referer logs? I did, and lots and lots of it.

This post did what they wanted - free ad on a weblog read by loads of people - who also have blogs where they might post the link.... etc.
posted by dabitch at 8:39 AM on May 31, 2003

If those girls are 20, I'll eat the the shoes I just took off.

That sounded like female Ahnouds trying to imitate Madonna ca. "Lucky Star".

My day is ruined.
posted by notsnot at 11:41 AM on May 31, 2003

The problem's not the song; it's the stupid-ass video.

If I heard this song in a club, I'd be dancing to it with a cotton-candy-eating grin on my face because it's good, clean, silly fun, the way disco was meant to be. But that video is the absolute pits. And nice bods clothed in pleated skirts is something I usually give a second look.
