Fired by text message by the ironically titled Accident Group. Staff advised that they wouldn't be paid either. I'm suspecting that the legalities of this are pretty shaky.

"... If you have not been spoken to you are therefore being made redundant with immediate effect."

I just love how politely callous you Brits can be. :-)

No problems with legalities according to the News at 10 on atm. But the messages were sent out by the administrators - PriceWaterhouseCooper.

I once had an encounter with some guy who claimed to be working for this outfit ('The Accident Group' - sounds like mafioso to me) in a street in Cambridge. He asked if I was worried that I might have an accident, when I said 'No' he started asking if I was worried if my child might have an accident It ended up with me questioning his negativity and asking if he was threatening me and, finally, a discussion of mortality. I was bored that day.

The legalities would indeed be shaky in most US States (assuming they were regular employees and not contractors.) I don't know as much about UK Labour law, but it is essentially now EU law, and this would not reach the written notice requirement for regular employees. Talk about a lazy H.R. Department!
