Men With Camouflage, Paint Ball Guns, And Lots And Lots Of Issues

"Originally I'm from New York. What am I going to hunt? Squirrels? Someone's cats? Someone's dogs? I don't think so." Now that he's living in Las Vegas, George Evanthes is finally getting his chance to put on his camouflage, grab a rifle, and pull the trigger. But he's not hunting ducks or even deer. He's hunting women. Naked women.

Well, that is just.....appalling. I don't know who the bigger idiot is, the hunter or the voluntary prey.

Jesus Christ, that's up there with bumfighting, midget tossing, and pro-anorexia websites on the most-awful ideas list.

What kind of person would even think of participating in this? Someone that says "Hey, I love to demean women, even hurt them physically sometimes. Why isn't there a sport for someone like me?"
posted by mathowie at 6:15 PM on July 14, 2003

The bigger idiot is the hunter, boomchicka, by a wide margin. The voluntary pray get paid, which we can sneer at, but if you're desperate, it's probably a more attractive option than becoming a prostitute or going into porn. Depressing fucking world.

From tracking down women with dogs to chasing after them with a real armored tank.

Ohh... that takes a lot of guts...

Man, what a bunch of pussies. Aside from the obvious misogynistic overtones, this could be intresting. Obviously it would be a lot more challanging to hunt something as intelegent and knowlagable as you, but it seems like these girls just run around like idiots trying to get hit.

It would make for an intresting reality show. take some naked woman out in the wilderness and have her try to survive and not get caught, and have some hunters try to capture her or whatever. Oh well, whatever.

it's probably a more attractive option than becoming a prostitute or going into porn.

1) how is this not porn?
2) what's wrong with porn?

I also don't see what makes this guy an 'idiot'

This is just another element of the disturbing trend of celebrating the "boorish male." Between shows like The Man Show, those hideous commercials for Coors ("Guys Night Out," etc.), I'm completely unsurprised that someone would hit upon this as a good money-making idea.

It seems like more of the boring same to me, although I think the post is a good one. I like it when idiots do society the service as outing themselves as idiots. Then we don't have to do it for them.

Delaphoi, your title is pretty damn apt... From the "Book a Hunt" page:

Whether it is a fat ass cow or a perfect 10 we have an abundance of these beauties. So if you are the ultimate sportsman and are seeking the ultimate adrenaline rush then come out to our ranch and shoot one of these nagging whinny [sic] bitches where it hurts and shut her the fuck up. Then mount her like a "Real Man".

Anyone who's played paintball knows that these women are putting their eyes in serious danger. Christ, they can run around naked for all I care -- just put some fucking goggles on 'em.

This showed up on Fark yesterday. (They found it distasteful. Imagine that.) I'm taking the skeptic's route here and calling hoax until I get some corroboration.
posted by tyro urge at 6:44 PM on July 14, 2003

I was going to say the same thing, Dakota - that's the first thing I thought when I saw this yesterday. I've been hit direct in the goggles before, and that was harsh enough. Someone was blinded where I live and it's now mandatory. It's the peak of stupidity to be involved in paintball without goggles, whatever the social implications of the "game' involved.

Anyone want to take bets on how long the producers of CSI will make an episode about this?
posted by phyrewerx at 6:48 PM on July 14, 2003

Snopes says it's probably a hoax. I'd agree. Imagine the insurance costs without safety gear, alone. Then there's the cheese factor all over the website. The trailers for the videos look pretty staged - I'd quicker assume the videos are fantasy-enactment for the cavemen that buy it than real taping of a live "hunt". And the "mounted kills"? Riiiiight.

My bet is that it's an escort service/brothel/pr0n-related-something-or-other trying to stir up controversy to get clientele. If it's real it'll get shut down pretty quick. But I doubt it's real. Still sick tho.

I sense a hoax here, too. It has that "story too good to be true", like the really wonderful "arm the homeless" prank of a few years back.
Just right to raise moral indignation, yet within the realm of the tastelessly possible.

Not likely. They get $2500 if they're not hit, and only $1000 if they do.

I don't see the big deal about this 'sport'. People get their kicks in different ways. Would you rather these guys were pedophiles or something? This sport makes as much sense as people who get a kick out of revving up cars, let em be.

Equally disturbing are the few posts that seem to say "boys will be boys."

If you actually think this is harmless, would it be harmless if they hunted african american or a native american men with paintballs? Is it ok because they're hunting women, and it's ok to look as women as prey?
posted by answergrape at 8:58 PM on July 14, 2003

answergrape:

Well, I don't think it's good that they are hunting women, I just find the idea of hunting people interesting as a game idea. Obviously this particular implementation is quite sick.

Anyway, there are all kinds of 'sick' fantasy fetishesists out there. What makes this so diffrent from S&M?

Y'know, as much as the fact that it's naked women being hunted gives it a nastier taste and that added touch of offensive language and imagery...I really don't see how this would be any better if it were equal opportunity, women hunting men, men hunting men, whatever. You're still paying to inflict harm on (and pretend to kill, and have your "victim" participate in that pretense) another human being who's been rendered vulnerable and helpless (even if it is voluntary). Seems like serial-killer warmup time to me, the next stop after torturing puppies. Here's hoping this does turn out to be a hoax.

I just listened to a Philly radio interview with the braniac behind this - Michael Burdick. If this is a hoax it's a very well-thought out one. The 2 man radio team (usually so pro-fem) were practically reaching through the phone to slap this guy on the back. They must have mentioned the url 6 times. Burdick also said that his servers are getting hammered, and have been for 2 days, and that he's sold thousands and thousands of videos in that time. He also said that he has two bambis over 300 pounds, for "chubby chasers" (god I hate that phrase), and that most of his clients are elderly men.

The radio guys said that they'd love to (even though they are, as they stated several times, most definitely not gay) love to set up a hunt with naked men in it, so that they could shoot them in the balls with speedy, stingy paint balls. Coz, ya know. That would be fun, and all.

Even if the actual sport doesn't exist (I think it does), the videos do, and this guy Burdick is making a fortune.

The Benny Hill-like way the women are running around is classic.

..as long as it's a hoax.
posted by Frasermoo at 5:58 AM on July 15, 2003

Delmoi, I think that this game in particular reinforces the idea of women as 'prey,' and I think that if it targeted any other group, that it would be viewed as far more despicable. If it were about about hunting, say, someone from an ethnic minority group, it might provoke more public outrage.

It frightens me because it is one more reinforcement of the ok-ness of dehumanizing women, and I fear that it is yet another image that young men and young women will have that alienates them from each other.
posted by answergrape at 8:34 AM on July 15, 2003

I am a self-confessed boorish male and I find this somewhat stupid. You're alone with a naked woman in the woods and you're thinking about paintball?

Maybe these guys need to read this..(NSFW or the easily offended).
posted by jonmc at 9:03 AM on July 15, 2003

Obviously this particular implementation is quite sick.

How? Of course, I'll agree with you if you mean it's as sick as men hunting animals, or men fishing then throwing the fish back. But on the scale of 'sick things the human race has done' this doesn't even scratch the surface.

Consent between both parties is everything in this case. It's no more sick than prostitution, which also involves men shooting their load at women.

backOfYourMind: Thank you for your psuedo-'look I'm an intellectual' link, but false dilemma doesn't apply, since I was not saying they'd be one or the other (and the syntax does not suggest that), but merely highlighting that this fetish is waaaay down on the scale of 'sickness.'

So why do women agree to strip down and run around the desert dodging paint balls? Nicole says it's good money. "I mean it's $2,500 if you don't get hit. You try desperately not to and it's $1000 if you do," said Nicole.

So, in this hoax-game, the women get paid less if they get shot? I thought that was the whole point!

So is this site going to have pictures of very thin hobos masturbating? Or will it have pictures of people masturbating to pictures of the tuchises of anorexic girls?

Either way, I'm sure there's a nontrivial number of people who'd pay to see it.

Awww, you guys broke it! Oh, adding the www. works.

While my SNAG inner self tends to look down on anyone who would hunt naked women for fun, there is a little bit of the neanderthal in me somewhere that thinks it would probably be fun. I am ashamed.

Even without checking snopes etc, I am pretty sure this is a hoax and is just a publicity stunt for the videos and the "ladies of the evening" featured. Who needs to pay an ad agency when you can just engineer a link to MeFi and others?
