Tucker Max produces evidence of encounters with Miss Vermont. Remember Tucker Max? Found earlier in this MeFi thread, Max was sued by Miss Vermont Katy Johnson for allegedly lying that he slept with her (she's a champion for abstinence) and then writing the gory details of her getting sozzled at a wedding. A judge forbade him from writing about her or linking to her. But now Tucker posts pictures and a video to back up his story. Will he now counter-sue? (Oh, and please think twice before clicking the Katy Johnson link. I beg you.)

The world needs more men like Tucker Max. Honest, reliable........ wait. The man's scum. So what if she's also scum?

He maybe kind of a piece of dung, but he at least can back up his shit. I'm all for exposing people who put themselves forth as moral citizens when they themselves are worse than those they might condemn.

So him slapping her on the ass and saying "man talk" means he slept with her?

If there was any justice in this world, the frozen discharge from overflying jets would kill more discriminantly.

How is this proof? The picture and video are completely innocuous.

Yeah, I don't know if this "evidence" proves anything aside from him being a asshole.

Wake me when he's got something truly credible.

Yes, he's an asshole, but what the court did in this case is just outrageous, even if he was lying. Like the saying goes, the battle for the first amendment is always fought in the gutter.

Hrm, how exactly is she scum? Based on reading only TM's story I honestly feel really, really bad for her. Her only flaw is her incredible stupidity. And while normally I would hate an idiot, being stupid is okay if you're a beautiful girl. Duh.

Should she have sued? I don't know, I can certainly understand her desire to do it...

Reading through the previous thread (I missed it the first time), it does sound like the court really overstepped its bounds. It sounds like the ruling was made against him regardless of whether or not it was true.

Not that it makes his evidence, which is the centerpiece on the mantle that is this thread, any more credible.

It seems to me that the entire crux of this issues lie with whether or not she actually slept with him, and whether or not his claims are true--and his evidence surely isn't good enough to support that it is, at least in my mind. Having a small grain of truth in a story doesn't make the entire story true (imagine: see, here's a picture of me in a yellow shirt, so obviously my story about wearing a yellow shirt and sexing up [insert name of public individual here] are true!).

In my mind, the fact that she's Miss Vermont puts her on a public level, and if his story is not true, then it's somewhat akin to the lawsuit Tom Cruise filed against the magazine purporting he had a gay affair.

Then again, maybe he's telling the truth and should be free to continue posting his trash until someone sees fit to punch him about his person.

The God Complex: No one is denying that she slept with him. In fact, if you read the court documents carefully, no one is even denying that she tends toward drunk and promiscuous and maybe a little bit dim. It's pretty clear that the First Amendment does not give one the right to libel; it's also pretty clear that the First Amendment does give one the right to disseminate unfortunate truths about people.

Mr. Max has laid out a fairly detailed and also pretty easily verifiable or disprovable tale. Speeding tickets, doctor's visits, parties with many (deposable) people present. If he's lying in part or in whole, it should come out pretty damn quickly. He admitted that he originally posted the story with the intent to defame - he even expressed his intent to defame before getting into the story.

If she thought he was lying, don't you think that Ms. Johnson's lawyers would have advised her to file an open-and-shut not-Constitutionally-murky libel case instead of the very problematic and likely to be dismissed invasion of privacy claim that she did file?

wdpeck, I put in two warnings in the post, one in the TITLE attribute and then another one at the end.

But you just had to click on it, didn't ya? ;)

maybe that's why I put it there in the first place

Oh what the heck, I'll put in another one:

Statutory warning: Clicking on the Katy Johnson link can be hazardous to your health. It can cause severe psychological trauma.

There, that should get more people clicking.

I can't believe I'm even weighing in on this...this guy just makes my skin crawl.

I think Max's issue is that the press release issued by Johnson's lawyers states "she vehemently
denies the story about her on the web site." So Max being able to prove just a tiny portion of his story discredits her, as she stated she "vehemently denied" the story, instead of proclaiming it an gross exaggeration.

Aw, come on. What can you have against a lesbian positive comic strip? Aren't two of the girls making out on the title page? (Huh? Me? Imagining things? I don't think so.)

And hey madman, don't forget... "Care is a big part of character!" (If you spell it "char", perhaps), and "Flowers are a great cover-up... for a goof-up!"

Words to live by.

We're so only going to see more of this. We put our lives on the net. And "We" includes lots of dorks.

I find Tucker Max's story credible. And about Katy "methinks she dost protest too much."

I suppose this is the judicial/web equivalent of "The Jerry Springer Show."

I'm sure when he is "forced" to display whatever sordid evidence/trophy he has in his back pocket (speculating... some panties with dna evidence? eww...) you'll all believe him more, and despise him more. It's a mire, to be sure, but a moderately entertaining one.

Oh, and +1 to the assessment of the guy as a sociopath.

Call me a contrarian, but I'm feeling sympathy for the caddish Tucker Max. An important piece of contextual information is that Katy Tucker is part of a growing number of beauty pageant winners who serve as spokespersons for abstinence-only sex education and against any form of premarital sex. The abstinence-only sex education group, Project Reality, has made significant strides recruiting beauty pageant winners to promote the federally funded Game Plan abstinence-only curriculum. Project Reality used to be known as Project Respect and Respect Inc., which distributed the Choosing the Best and Sex Respect curricula. Choosing the Best basically used scare tactics and outright lies to get teens to abstain from sex, such as advising teens that they had to wash their genitalia with Lysol whenever they have sex. If the exposure of Katy Johnson as a sexual hypocrite stops at least one legislator from voting for these nonsensical and counterproductive abstinence-only education programs, I certainly won't be disappointed. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the other beauty pageant contestants promoting right-wing sexual morality aren't as chaste as their public image suggests.
