Boy, combine this with things like the Patriot Act and the elimination of overseas duty pay for members of the military, and you'd think that someone inside the Bush administration is actively *trying* to destroy this country's ability to function internally and externally.

Why do you think I posted this? Blind Bush hatred or something? ;-)

I saw Wilson interviewed on the Today show yesterday. You have to parse the partisan politics a bit, but it's pretty clear that someone told Novak something they shouldn't have. Wilson claimed that before the story was published Novak told him that his source was "two CIA officials," but that the story as printed cited "two senior administration officials." According to Wilson, when he subsequently confronted Novak, Novak said he "must have been mistaken."

Whether or not it was illegal, it was just plain stupid. This administration appears to have no concept of how slimy and underhanded this stuff appears to the average American.

I encourage all of you that are concerned about this story to write to the news station, paper or radio show of choice and encourage them to cover this story. It's over a week old now, and it has still only received minor coverage.

This is a huge story, especially in light of the suicide in Great Britian. This event has brought the UK war justification discussion to a new level. Perhaps coverage of the US administration's treatment of dissenters would further enlighten the US public as well...

If this was an Ashcroft under cover operative would we have all this concern?

DBAPaul: The point here is that -- in the midst of a scandal intensified by the statements of a former ambassador -- someone in the administration outed his wife as an undercover CIA agent.

If Ashcroft's undercover operative came out against him and his wife's personal life, reputation and career were run through the dirt, we'd probably be discussing that here too. We care. We really do.

If this was an Ashcroft under cover operative would we have all this concern?

Considering that Ashcroft's remit is to operate domestically, it's not quite the same thing. But yes, if the administration outed a deep cover operative whose job it was to, for example, infiltrate terrorist cells, yes, I think there would be every bit as much concern.

I can't wait till the 'intelligence' services start enacting their revenge against the politicians.

Can we finally agree as Americans, these peeps is no good for any of us?

If your interest is in who they hate and who they smear, then hell yeah run with it. Have some fun doing so.

These are some serious allegations. We can allow it to be sloughed over. Or we can be realistic. There's some shit going on upstairs. It's high time all Americans, left, center and right call for a hiatus in all this noise. We need to know where this country stands. We are not sheep, robots, androids or leeches. We are all here. And we fucking deserve to be leveled with.

Don't we all value a world where we can argue in The Blue? Or the green.
