CANstruction, get it? Ha!

If you're the type who gets creative when you drink a lot, the folks at Canstruction have a few ideas about what you can do with the discarded empties. Here's a slide show of some good examples, and here are the winners of their contests in 2002 & 2003 respectively.

Let me be the first to say it:

"Nice Cans!"

The best thing about this is that the cans aren't empties; rather, they're still full of food, which is donated to local food pantries after the competitions.

The worst thing is the names of most of the entries, which have that special "Junior High Science Fair" ring to them: "Make Your Move To Check-Mate Hunger"

Nice find, jonson.

Thanks, yhbc for pointing out the real purpose of it. And yes, the names and concepts do get silly and stuff. The competition (which happens annually) is primarily between architecture and design firms and firms in related fields (structural engineers, interior designers, etc.).

My firm's (winning) entry last year: SpongeBob SPAMpants. I kid you not. And yes, his pants were made of SPAM. And he was riding a sailboat made of .... Dr. Skipper!

What? No Beeramids?

For the longest time I couldn't figure out what beer came in yellow cans. Then I realized they were food cans. Misleading FPP, jonson! But very cool nonetheless. I really liked the 2003 winner.

LionIndex - do you have a link to a picture? Anything SpongeBob is worth a click.

I'll check and see if there's any local sites with anything on them, but your Google is as good as mine. There was a story in the LA Times Calendar section on us in May; I'll try looking for that, too.

BTW, the responsible thing to do, when you are drinking and riding (not driving, of course) is to dump your empties on someone's lawn, not just anywhere into the roadside shrubbery. That way, the lawn owner is sure to pick them up and recycle them, and you won't have to feel bad about littering...

On the same subject, what's the difference between a redneck and a good ole boy? A redneck tosses his beer cans out the pickup truck window, whereas a good ole boy gets a truck with one of those sliding rear window, so he can toss the cans out there and recycle them later.
