One Day's Pay

One Day's Pay is a not-for-profit org that promotes September 11th as a "national day of voluntary service, charity, and compassion." Why not take a few minutes or a few hours to help those in need? As an extension, we could all blog our efforts and share via trackbacks or links in the comments. In my mind, as good a way as any to commemorate a tragedy.

"national day of voluntary service, charity, and compassion."

Unfortunately, George W. Bush will be unable to take part.

"...as good a way as any to commemorate a tragedy."

The jury is still out on whether or not commemorating this particular tragedy is a good thing.

For my part, I vow not to consume any self-loving mass media that might be riding the coattails of the tragedy. Even NPR had to tie the new VI Warshowsky book in.

How timely.

On post-view: perhaps I shall stand on the street corner and yell "fuck!" quite loudly.

I want to know why we need a horrible event like that of September 11, 2001 to promote volunteerism? Isn't volunteering something that every person should do (as their personal circumstance allows), just as a regular part of their lives?

I stopped by Second Harvest on my way to work and dropped off some food. Today (and every day) is a good day to help out your fellow human beings.
