megaman vs. metroid [Note: Flash]

The only thing that would've made this perfect is a "You Got" weapon screen at the end. Great stuff.

I missed the little stuff. Like when you get to the top of a vertical room, get hit by something, fall to the bottom, and have all the enemies in the room come back to life.

Nicely implemented, but I feel like it's a waste that it's using other people's IP. Primarily Nintendo's and Capcoms. But the implementation of it is pretty damned nice (though the balance could use some tweaking as the final battle gets a lot harder and laggier than the rest of the game, probably due to the AI -- which, really, is kinda cheap).

And, to nit-pick, it should technically be MegaMan vs. Samus, as I did not see a single Metroid in the whole thing.

Bam! Kick it up a notch!

Woohoo! Made it all the way through first time. </faith in inner geek restored>

The AI for Samus was better than what I had expected from a Flash game. She didn't feel cheap to me--I'm just glad she didn't ice beam me and then pelt me with missiles. Now that would've been a pain.

(Hey, if it works against the Metroids, it'd work against the Blue Bomber.)

anyone else see the randomness of this threads title directly repeating the last one...or is it just "vs" night and i didn't get the memo?

Samus really needs to find her Long Beam. I mean seriously.

I'll make sure you get a copy of the memo.

mkn, I think you've ignored the impact of nostalgia. Do you think this project would have survived/propogated if it used completely original sprites/concepts?

also, see creative commons for what you might think is a call for artists to 'waste'

Am I the only one who couldn't take all the horribly long intro sequences? Too long. I got impatient after clicking "play" and having to wait through "s......a.....m......u......s....." Nope, not gonna play that one.

slacy - i didnt have that problem.
just looking at the old brightly pixellated metroid graphics is a delight, personally

Even with Mega Man's superior control, I still suck at finding my way in Metroid. The rooms are mostly the way I remember them, which is awesome. The AI for Samus is better than most of the MM Robot Masters after 3. This is totally great.

I actually found the AI for Samus to be very annoying... unlike normal MM bosses that have patterns you can work around, she just would jump up and home in on me wherever I was. Needless to say, I couldn't beat her and gave up...

The key is to use the platform - when she's on the ground on the opposite side from you, shoot her, then wait until she heads for you while laying bombs. Jump over the platform, then turn around and shoot her again. Repeat, but don't stand on the platform for more than a second, or she'll hop up and shoot you.

And make sure to charge up MM's shots to nail her on her way up, then get down from the platform immediately to dodge her incoming shot. Hop back on when she lands, charging the whole time, rinse and repeat.

Thanks, I know of Creative Commons already. Last I checked, neither Nintendo nor Capcom released their characters under a CC license.
