Strange how fascinated I was, clicking away at all the pictures of old light bulbs. There's still something magical about them and the older ones had a soft, amber light which the new ones no longer have. Cheers, quonsar! This glass phase of yours is proving very interesting. Have you started blowing your own yet? :)

Let's just hope his bulb craze doesn't catch on.

Yes, I know, I desperately need one of those that light about just above your conk when a bright idea for a comment comes along.

I really like the stuff on Geissler Tubes - fascinating!
And from the site's link page, The Bulb Museum is another cool page on the theme. It has some good antique and vintage bulb images too, and a Christmas Displays Mini Site - it's never to early to plan holiday lighting extravaganzas!

Oh, and that holiday site reminded me of taz's wonderful post on old Christmas lights from last year.

Leave us not forget that valves are not always simply beautiful, but oftimes ominous.

Awesome!
MiguelCardoso - I don't think quonsar is that flexible.

Sure he is!

dg, you old bastard, why are addressing me as MiguelCardoso - don't you love me anymore? Was it the wallaby-cull thread? ;)

*checks to see if MiguelCardoso is still called MiguelCardoso, finds that he is indeed still MiguelCardoso. Becomes confused*
Miguel, as a matter of personal protocol, I generally address people on MeFi/MeTa by the name that they have supplied to the community. If you wanted to be Miguel here, you should have called yourself that :-) I hate it when people shorten my name, as in I introduce myself as David and someone says "nice to meet you Dave", so always address people by the name that they give me when introductions are made. Venues such as #mefi are a much less formal atmosphere (and require faster typing), so the "rules" are more flexible.

Sorry to derail your thread, quonsar - I should have known better than to rise to that bait in the first place. Please, carry on the illuminating discussion and ignore the man in the corner.

Great! They look so fragile, yet he's managed to round up so many survivors. Thanks, quonsar.
