He’s battered the sav again beautifully there, and it must be swelling now, it must be starting to hurt

If you're planning on watching the Rugby World Cup, you'll be sure to enjoy the full football experience by getting all your Rugby info via Australia's finest sporting commentators. (Last link is RealMedia - but you need to hear them to understand the appeal...) Rampaging Roy Slaven and H.G. Nelson. They love sport so much, they even call role-playing games...

They also advertise products like :-
"Roy's Rectal Ring Balm" (for those days when your ring's red raw), and
"Date Fingers" during their game calls.

Rush Limbaugh couldn't come up with something that funny when he was wigged out on painkillers!

As a former rugger myself, I'd love to watch some World Cup. Unfortunately, the only N. American coverage is by an obscure satellite service for which you need a giant dish I'm told.

Actually, in the US you can watch the matches on Fox Sports World (tape delayed), which is available on most digital cable and Direct TV packages (Most Sports bars will have it.). You can also get the games live on pay per view for 19.95 a game (again if you have Digital Cable or Direct TV). Try to catch the USA vs. Fiji match if you can best match of the WC so far.

As someone who can't stand rugby, especially the union variety, I'm so pleased it's getting the Roy & H.G. treatment. I only became aware of them during the Sydney 2000 Olympics, where their late night show, entitled The Dream, made the headlines over here for its fine pisstake of the tight-arsed Olympic ideal. (There's a DVD available of the best bits. I recommend it.)

Somehow, though, I don't think the Rugby World Cup will produce as much material as 'Hello Boys' and 'Battered Sav' for the gymnastics, and Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat.

Roy and H.G. have been nursing me through sport for years; I've even managed to watch the last few AFL grand finals thanks to their delicious commentary, their treatment of Australian Rugby League State of Origin is spectacular.

I think other commentators and sports writers could learn a lot from Roy and H.G. - sport isn't serious. It's fun. It's not a matter of life and death, it's a bunch of blokes running around with a ball. And the comedy potential is enormous.

Roy and HG are hilarious and have made the last couple of Olympic/Commonwealth Games something watchable for me and I am sure many others who do not think of sports at every second of their waking life. As jimbob says, they put sport where it belongs and firmly knock it from the pedestal that is occupies the world over. Let's face it, sport is funny mostly.

I didn't know Roy and HG did anything other than League. This British League fan is embarrassed for them. Never mind boys, it'll be over soon.
