You can't beat Sauron at legal arguments. The only way to deal with him is to get Buffy the Vampire Slayer to kick his ass.

Is this something you need a law degree to find funny?

Because I don't have a law degree.

I don't have a law degree and I found it pretty funny - but then once I get out of undergrad I'm thinking of getting a law degree, so.

Duh. Isn't it obvious that *all* lawyers are already agents of Sauron?

Now you've done it. Calling anyone an "agent of Sauron" is clearly defamatory on its face; the defamatory statement is about identifiable persons, to wit, lawyers; and the material has been distributed to someone other than the offended party, to wit, the members and lurkers of MetaFilter. You can expect a subpoena by the end of the month, and Matt will be required to turn over all user IDs; eventually MeFi will be sold at auction and all of us will be working as unpaid gofers at law firms as part of a "public service" deal to avoid jail time. I hope you're happy.

As a law student, I might have come up with something like that; as a lawyer, I was just happy to sneak out and see the movie.

The contract-interpretation discussion made me cringe, but I enjoyed the civ-pro jokes. [sigh] I miss school. [/sigh]

It summarises everything that means I don't want to be a lawyer anymore.

Woah!

Contract law without consideration as a condition is terrifying and bizarre!

Merry xmas all...
