Delicate. Abstract. Phallic. Gorgeously designed. Four pages of "rare and valuable" Isaac Asimov book covers. Some are truly beautiful. From West Virginia University's brand-new home for an Asimov geek's recently donated collection. [via the ever-useful ResearchBuzz]

It's robot heads and rocket ships, drawn 40-50 years ago. Trust me, it's phallic.

how else would you draw robot heads and rocket ships?

Um, you might be taking this a bit too seriously. But ok: non-phallic robot heads and rocket ships.

Now get some sleep.

You must have been watching an entirely different twilight zone than the rest of us...

Haha, the "phallic" ones look like penises.

My nob looks like a robot, should I be worried?

I have to take issue with the claim that some of these designs are beautiful or gorgeous, though. They look like bog standard cheap pulp-sci-fi covers to me.

Eye of the beholder and all that. I've been seeing well-designed "cheap pulp-sci-fi" covers for years.

Right on! And thanks for the great find.

mediareport, those are obviously "flying saucers" and not "rocket ships".

Whatever.

Whatever.

Yep, that certainly looks rocket propelled, unlike the flying saucers.

[laughing] You know, you can start talking about robot heads at any time. But just for you, Satapher: Rocket-propelled flying saucers. Qubits look pretty non-phallic, too.

How do flying saucers get around, anyway? Oh yeah, right, they're lifted by string.

Goddamn splitters. Always making life hard for us lumpers.
