Whats with the "anyone convicted of killing a famous person" never gets parole quote? Is there some kind of law that states that famous murders are more important than the murder of a nobody. I'm hoping he meant that the board would be influenced by the bad-press Chapman's release would get, which is really just as bad. I thought Chapman was in the nuthouse, all the bios I've read of him make him out to be very mentally ill.

Having served 20 years, hasn't he served more than most people convicted of murder?

do the crime, do the time. If the parole board decides that he is ready to return to society, then so be it. We should be ready to let Chapman back into society.

The issue here is that people do not feel like prison is rehabillating people. The common perception is that once someone has gone to jail, they come out worse. This is not a problem with the people who go to jail. This is a problem with the jail system. Until we have a system that works, we will continue to see this type of reaction to a parole announcement.

We should be glad to hear that Chapman, or any other former criminal, has been deemed able to return to society. I am sure that is what John Lennon would have thought.

All we are saying... remember?

I'd suggest that at least it would give him the chance to go back and get Yoko Ono, but that would be horrid and sick, so I shan't.

Or after Jodie Foster, which could be worse.

Look at Charles Manson. He didn't go after anyone particularly famous, but we'll keep him in there indefinately, I think.

20 years is a lot of time. He could be okay now (Chapman), but then again, he might not.
