The heightened contrast gives these photos an otherworldly, almost painterly quality. Although the subjects are often stereotypical of "arty" photography (i.e. the Lone Tree in a Field, the Room in Partial Shadow) they are very nice.

if you like Kenna, you'll probably find Rocky Schenck interesting as well

Wow. Beautiful.

I went to Uni with a Michelle Kenna, photographer, so I freaked out for 2 seconds.

Very well done, and they are indeed painterly. Although not in a textured brush-stroke type of way, it's more about the compositions. Interestingly, paintings started to get composed this way upon the introduction and acceptance of photography -- i'm thinking of the cropping and the way the elements are positioned relatively to the edges of the pictures. That is sometimes called "photographic cropping" among painters. So my point, and argument, is that these pictures are photos that look like paintings that look like photos.

Thought his stuff looked familiar then saw his commercial work page. Looks like every major auto mfg has used him at one time or another.

They have a very asian/zen feel. Beautiful and pacifying. Thanks, hama7!
