Jesus christ. If this is real, it's pretty scary stuff.

When do "they" hunt pigs?; "dogs" would fit better.

This interview kind of reminds me of this article from The Onion.

"Did you flee to Pakistan?

I am not sure. Perhaps! The border between the two countries is so contiguous"

a contiguous border between 2 adjoining nations..

i wonder what they will think of next.

I met him months ago and we are in contact with each other. He is very much alive and kicking.

This is a joke, yes?

Who hunts dogs? Pigs sounds fine to me. You know, contextually.

Dogs? Pigs? How about "wabbits?"

What he really needs to do is start a punk rock band.

No, I think he means "We are hunting Americans like pigs [hunt Americans]," (Read: not very well at all).

Like the Burka Band?

Pigs hunt truffles well. Maybe he meant, "we are hunting Americans like pigs hunt truffles."

Silly Omar, those are mushroom clouds.

He may be a big talker but on the other hand he has been fighting modern armies all his life...

And how well did the Soviets do against the mujahedin again? Think on that before talking too big back at him.

Maybe he just read Lord of the Flies.

It certainly seems like he's living in it.

People hunt pigs! That's all I'm saying.

Aood Muslim would not hunt or get near either pigs or dogs.

This was my thought, too, Postroad. They're both très tref.

Um, so let's see, he's hunting pigs that happen to have machine guns, air support, tanks, bombs and grenades? Good luck.

And Muslims don't need food? I want my check to Oxfam back!
posted by fenriq at 3:15 PM on April 12, 2004

But saying, I for one welcome our new Mullah Omar Overlords is still funny, right?

Its so hard to keep track of what's cool and what's a tool.

If the Taliban are "hunting Americans like pigs", would the converse of this be :

"The Americans are hunting the Taliban like dogs" ?

we will chase them like rats through the tundra

If americans are pigs, could we use our fallen comrades against them like this.

on second, thought that might be not go over well with US citizens, but an interesting similarity in us being an unclean animal. Although if the same logic applies the people who downed the planes on 9-11 get no harem.

sourbrew - That "Philippine terrorism solution" sounds good, but it's complete historical BS. Actually, the US dealt with the Philippine revolt (it wasn't "terrorism" because the Filipinos were rebelling against US rule and fighting for independence - by the same token, the US founding fathers were "terrorists") by killing an enormous number of people. In some provinces, the US army troops killed all the males while in others, nearly everyone (men, women and children). There were US Congressional inquiries about the excessive violence used to suppress the revolt, but I don't believe that anyone was ever substantially punished for the near-genocidal levels of bloodshed.

That was a good sounding urban legend there, but it's so historically wrong that it makes me cringe.

Anyway - of course humans are "unclean" ; as with any top-of-the-food chain animal, toxins tend to build up in the fat tissue.

What I find funny about this post is Mullah Omar's awareness of American cultural taboos. Notice that he did NOT say "We will hunt them like goats" or "We will hunt them like yaks".

I was trying to find a story that i thought i had read suggesting that israel was considering doing the same. That was the best i could come up with.... still its an interesting idea, and obviously the previous part is urban legend.
posted by sourbrew at 4:24 AM on April 13, 2004

And, who knows ? I have read historical accounts of similar tactics, tactics which mess with people's deap-seated religious taboos to instill terror.

If the Americans catch Mullah Omar, they'll probably serve him some nice cutlets and then reveal later on that he had just eaten dog.

JULES
A sewer rat may taste like pumpkin
pie. I'll never know 'cause even
if it did, I wouldn't eat the
filthy motherfucker. Pigs sleep
and root in shit. That's a filthy
animal. I don't wanna eat nothin'
that ain't got enough sense to
disregard its own feces.

VINCENT
How about dogs? Dogs eat their own
feces.

JULES
I don't eat dog either.

VINCENT
Yes, but do you consider a dog to
be a filthy animal?

JULES
I wouldn't go so far as to call a
dog filthy, but they're definitely
dirty. But a dog's got
personality. And personality goes
a long way.

Those are some pretty fucking fierce "remnants".

Can I buy "remnants" like that at my local garment store?
