Coffin Photos

The coffin pictures the Pentagon banned. So much for that, thanks to the FOIA. Anyone have a mirror site? thememoryhole.org seems to be getting slashdotted as I write this.

Already posted that to the coffins posted, so sorry if I repeat myself:

COLUMBIA CREW MISTAKENLY IDENTIFIED AS IRAQI WAR CASUALTIES

Many news organizations across the country are mistakenly identifying the flag-draped caskets of the
Space Shuttle Columbia's crew as those of war casualties from Iraq.

Editors are being asked to confirm that the images used in news reports are in fact those of
American casualties and not those of the NASA astronauts who were killed Feb.1, 2003, in the
Columbia tragedy.

An initial review of the images featured on the Internet site www.thememoryhole.org shows that more
than 18 rows of images from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware are actually photographs of honors
rendered to Columbia's seven astronauts.

News organizations across the world have been publishing and distributing images featured on the web
site.

thats odd, I check memory hole every now and again, but I could swear that some of those pics showed a whole lot more than 7 coffins. Would be strange to see how this happened, if they are using the photos supplied under the FOIA request.

thememoryhole is down currently so I can't double check

More from Drudge:

INTERNET MIX-UP: Russ Kick of thememoryhole.org filed a Freedom of Information Act requesting 'all photographs showing caskets (or other devices) containing the remains of US military personnel at Dover AFB. This would include, but not be limited to, caskets arriving, caskets departing, and any funerary rites/rituals being performed. The timeframe for these photos is from 01 February 2003 to the present.'

But Kick appears to have assumed all the photos given to him were of the WAR ON TERROR/IRAQ dead!

On Thursday NASA claimed dozens of photos featured in Kick's war dead -- were photos of Space Shuttle Columbia's crew! The shuttle blew up on 2/1/03.
'An initial review of the images featured on the Internet site www.thememoryhole.org shows that more than 18 rows of images from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware are actually photographs of honors rendered to Columbia's seven astronauts,' NASA said.

CNN aired space shuttle coffins as Iraq dead from thememoryhole.org. It is not clear if other media outlets are currently featuring space shuttle coffins in their rotations... Developing...

111, that was nice that you cross-posted it. I look forward to hearing more about this the same way Drudge followed up so well with the OMG KERRY SEX CONSPIRACY.

It should be noted, that even if what Drudge says is entirely true it was a mistake on the part of the Pentagon who sent the wrong photos, and just goes to disprove the Whitehouse's privacy arguments by reinforcing the sheer anonymity of the photos.

Also, for what it's worth, I saw many, many, many more than seven coffins in those photographs.

On preview, efalk, there are several mirrors linked to in the other thread, including a link to Drudge himself, who made the same mistake everyone else did by posting the images.
