I sense a tinge of hostility in these personals.

Like shooting fish in a barrel-- ah, but what fish.

Hilarious, and it wouldn't surprise me if the models really said those things.

I really liked it for a few minutes and then the sarcasm and anger started to wear on me like a naugahyde coat and I had to go away.

Oh joy, that particular brand of misogyny which targets pretty women rears its head once again.
Hyuk, look, models are stoopid.
Funny.
How about some blonde-jokes?

Yes, because the life of pampered women who get paid huge amounts of money because they look pretty is so tough they really deserve endless sympathy.

Cry me a fuckin' river, glamourpusses.

Perhaps not endless sympathy, but hostility? I dunno, some where amusing but kinda overkill, easy repetitious humor becomes a little tedious

Why not? The looks obsessed, materialistic, celebrity-worshipping culture that supermodels are part and pacel of deserves hostility and mockery, don'tcha think? I don't really see the misogny since as far as I'm concerned it applies to male models (and most other "celebrities") as well.

I can see what you mean about overkill, but hell, as long as it's funny.

signal, i read it more as making fun of the manipulated image created in the ads...not so much the women but whoever's designing them, the person who's sniffing out the provocative implications of each image and its setup.

and yes, it's pretty hilarious. wish i'd thought of it; it's perfect for the format--a format which WANTS you to form subconcious, instant "cool" narratives based on a page flip.

It seems to me that these are poking fun at the way these women are portrayed in the photos as opposed to making fun of the women themselves. This is an important distinction. IMO, that makes this more of a slam on the fashion industry (and the images it produces) than on women.

In other words, I agree with what ifjuly wrote and really need to consider reading all the comments before I post.

On preview: I third ifjuly.

Not a single picture on that site is showing up for me. I suspect that lessens the humor somewhat.

The little blogger girl. Cheerleader, honors student, and I'm in a band! I tell my parents I'm a virgin, but the truth is I sneak out at nights to party with cholos, and the secrets to my good grades are diet pills, and having given a handjob to the vice principal.

A better word would be jealousy.

Its a nice idea but the execution is very repetitive and somewhat limited.

There is an additional rich layer of irony that can perhaps be enjoyed only by those of us who have the misfortune to be veterans of the online personal-ad 'scene.'
