Award-Winning Student Websites from a program called the Global Virtual Classroom, which has just announced the opening of applications for a repeat of the contest for the 2004-05 school year. Check out an example of the quality work these kids put together.

Some of the Flash stuff is very nicely done, but I was also delighted and somehow reassured to see content like this (from the 'Stones and Bones' site behind the 3rd of fpatrick's links):

- In the British Isles is where Stonehenge is.
- In England the period called Neolithic is when Stonehenge was created.
- Europe is planning to build a highway through Stonehenge.
- For over 5000 years people have been taunted by Stonehenge.
- Stonehenge is built out of rock!
- People think Stonehenge was built by aliens.

huh. well they were "good" in the sense that none of them wanted to make me vomit, but overall, these are still pretty crappy.

Thinkquest is for small co-located teams. GVC is as much, if not more, about cross-border collaboration and cultural exchange (teams of three schools from three countries) as it is about the sites themselves, which may result in less than grammatically correct English, and perhaps a bit more in the way of aesthetic compromises.
