Bob, this would have made a decent link if it didn't have the extremely provocative commentary you wrote. Today's Papers may be exactly the sort of thing that a lot of folk would like! But you've put (some of) those very folks on the defensive, haven't you? And if you weren't posting this because you thought that it was a really good site that lots of people hadn't heard of but would like to know about; but, rather, because you want to change how people post, then alienating those people isn't a very productive strategy. For my part, I'd prefer you (or someone else) had posted this in good-faith. It's a cool site. (It looks like it, I haven't looked at it closely yet.)

The only thing worse than a troll is someone who feels the need to eradicate any other "worthless" conception of the world from the minds of the "mistaken". Jehova's Witnesses come to mind. And the Seth brigade isn't far behind: those metafilter egomaniacs who simply can't bear the thought of a link somewhere in the Blue where people are discussing something THEY feel is inappropriate or "worthless". Instead of just skipping the link, they have to "save" Metafilter from its own worthless self.

Thanks for caring, but go to hell.

I was about to shrug off this post as nothing more than a bad idea which happened to be poorly executed, but then I noticed the title. Honestly, did you think before you posted this, or did you just decide to run off and call a bunch of total strangers "assholes?" That doesn't seem like a good way to act in a so-called community, especially considering that you are such a recent member.

Maybe in the future you should avoid being overtly inflammatory. You have, effectively, walked into a dinner party and stuck your dick in the mashed potatoes. I don't think I'm alone when I ask you to not do it again.

Ok I'll not call you a friggin idiot, we're not of FR or LGB.
You prob have noticed by now that, unlike other blogs, the most "evil" offence here is doubleposting and the worst that could happen is that some story is deleted because it's a doublepost. At worst, you can tell why you think the story was wrongfully deleted in Metatalk, again unlike many other boards in which knee-jerking webmasters will just delete and ban your ass out of the board cause you dared post a link that they don't like.

FARK! hey bob sarabia, from now one [sic], please post your worthless, apolitical blather posts under here, fark.com!.[sic] how about that? please?

Apart from the obvious typo and double punctuation, this post a bit perplexing. By "under here" do you mean that we should post the political links that we dont find interesting under the heading of this thread where you link to a news aggregation site? What do we do with the worthwhile political links? Is it OK to continue posting those to the front page? Who are these 'assholes' that you are referring to? You obviously are, so is this just a reminder to yourself to be a better poster? I would think a tattoo on your palm would be more effective than a public forum where you would actually have to do some digging after the first day just to find what you were trying to tell yourself. That, and you would spare us the brunt of your own issues working themselves out.

Extra credit if your replies don't include any words with the prefix '-0rz'.

(yup, im an asshole too, so this post was definitely pointed towards me.)

But note that Matt deleted a newsfilter post just minutes (or thereabouts) before Bob posted this. The only deletion worthy offense isn't doubleposting. Newsfilter counts, too.

For the provocative post title and wording for the post alone, this should go.

Waste of screen space, and a wasted link.

"Newsfilter counts, too."

All kidding aside, it really, really would be nice for this community to have another place to post the newsfilter and agendafilter posts. Or maybe just categories so we can choose to ignore the posts in topics we see in 100 other places a day?

I'm not slamming MeFi here, I just think we are in an odd time in it's evolution. As the FPP become more and more oriented to politics and agendas it is inevitable that the level of discussion will slide downwards. So far that process is slow, but it is visible.

Wouldn't it be nice to send that stuff to a category, or another section fo the site to try and keep that process contained?

MetaFilter - slippery slope sliders!

I suppose one person's garbage will always be another's gold. I appreciate the diversity myself and would not have it any other way. Better than "reality" TV, all the nutrition and no pabulum.

The tenor of the post aside, I'm pleased to have discovered Todays Papers. I'm the sort who *enjoys* NewsFilter posts and the discussion thereof. Like soulhuntre, I wish it were a more legitimate part of MeFi.

But, since it's not, I don't at all mind having another site to visit.

post your worthless, political newsfilter posts : Perhaps, bob, you did not notice that one cannot post to Today's Papers; it accepts comments only. Everyone knows half the fun is writing a provocative post. ;-P

Dear Bob,

PS Any political discussion is worthless if it exposes Bush for the buffoon he is?

Bob the Chihuahua, could you please calm down?

Your attempt to win the hearts and the minds of newsfilter posters is predestined to fail. Please accept the fact that until the world has settled down a bit, political content will likely leak onto the big blue screen.
posted by mosch at 8:01 AM on June 18, 2004

Soulhunter: I am starting to agree with the need for categories or some kind of filter that "sensitive" users can use to block posts with certain words like Bush, Michael Moore, politics, liar, etc. That way they don't have to block them for everyone, just their delicate flower selves.

Especially since it appears that some people simply won't accept the fact that a significant proportion of this community LIKES the political discussions, even learns from them (except of course when the "militant apoliticals", who are inexplicably drawn to every damn political post, appear en masse to make their contribution in the form of insulting the poster with the same damn insults over and over). I mean how hard is it to skip to the next Flash link or internet bauble link?

Is it just human nature to want to censure all things that don't please us?
