Metafilter: Still smelling like cat pee

Catscan.com is one of the strangest sites I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why.

Is is just me or does this site not actually have any pictures? I don't want to click on the links because they all appear to just be ads. Perhaps I'm too lazy and didn't look hard enough?

Death told me this:
He razors off 11 days of your life for every MetaFilter minute.
On your deathbed, in a dream, he dangles them in front of you,
And offers to reimburse you, if you'll just click 'Accept'.
And when you do click 'Accept' (and everyone always does)
The screen flashes fire, turns black, and says
'Error 404: File Not Found'
In radioactive green
And big red smoochy lips appear
At low resolution
And draw your sunken face to the screen
For a final skinless kiss
Goodbye.

And with that, the circle was complete. The knights of MeFi rode off into the sunset, back to their homes where they would be warmly welcomed by long-unseen family and friends. Their voyage had been a long one, but the world was once again safe from the ravages of the monster that had haunted them for lo this many generations.

Does anyone here watch West Wing? On the show all the monitors are set to a MeFi blue color. I've always giggled at the thought that Sorkin might have all those characters trolling on MeFi instead of, you know, running the country and stuff.

Happy birthday, MeFi! (Even though you never remember mine.)

It seems Cat-Scans is currently redesigning their site, but there archives are still there. I don't know if I agree with squeezing cats into a scanner for the pleasure of the internet viewing public. It just seems cruel to me.

Today's Birthday: This year, an image change signals a plethora of new opportunities. You won't know which one to celebrate first. Now through August features many dates. The best signs for new love are Pisces and Gemini. Appreciation finally comes in January. Finances perk up when you feel your work is making a difference.

But should we be marking these birthdays in regular years, internet years or cat years?

Of course, the fifth is the wood anniversary...

posted by somethingotherthan at 7:27 PM on July 14, 2004

Wood?

Who likes wood?

Shadowkeeper did later explain that most mysterious of the mefi-in jokes, which, seeing as how it fell just after the seminal "Who likes pancakes?" joke, attained (at least to me, and I'll bet to a few others) almost mystical significance of its own. However, I'll let someone who is even geekier than me find the actual explanation. Do I have to do everything for you people?

Happy Birthday, MetaFilter.

Okay, this is really irritating me. I've gotten as far as, "True success indeed shines on a most outstanding person..." But what about the rest? What is able, "person" or "success"? What shines upon him/it? Is "shines" the meaning of ???? that you were going for? And is it just me, or are those verbs feminine (in the absence of any feminine subject)? Four semesters of Arabic, and I still can't read that sentence.
